I dug up a few "legs" this afternoon while tackling those dock plants. Like one of those roots are not bad enough!

Back to the start of this thread, I bought some plant food "with horse manure" the other day and after reading I should sprinkle it around my plants, soaked it in the watering can instead and watered everything but the lawn with it. (The "food" looks too much like my hens' layer pellets and they are all over the garden.) That, with the heat and wonderful, wonderful rain we had got the corn going crazy now :)

Awesome !!! Our sweet corn will be done here shortly it's been in tassle about 2 weeks now. The Indian flour corn is growing tall with no sign of tassle yet thankfully because I wanted to avoid cross pollination of the two.

I like a medium hot pepper, got any of those? If it sets me on fire, I can't enjoy it.

My summer garden in the valley is looking pretty good all things considering... It didn't come easy this year that's for sure. I'm gonna sow fall cabbage, broccoli, califlower & brussel sprouts tomorrow.

Looks like smut - but don't feed it all to the chickens! It's a delicacy....I've eaten it and it's GOOD! It's a fungus - cousin to a mushroom I guess. It's been a long time, but I think I sautéed it with some butter and garlic just to taste it. I'd eat it again if I had some! Google has recipes.

In Mexico they infect fields on purpose, it is in great demand. I never had any, if I ever get any smutty corn, I'll give it a try. FEM is this the poor man's truffle? LOL
