I have lots of beetles now. They like to be in the dark and hide under things. Here's a picture that shows some of the beetles that were out today:

I got a pumpkin for the chickens since pumpkin is supposed to work as a natural de-wormer and have some saved for this winter. I have a broody silkie, Sugar, who is about to hatch out some eggs. I put five eggs under her, 3 from my layers and 2 of the silkies', but it looks like only the 2 silkie eggs are going to hatch. The rooster I have with the layers is sterile, apparently. He will be replaced this spring.

Well, 1 of the 2 good silkie eggs somehow got rooted out of the nest and was in the cold all day. It was deader than a door nail. This upsets me. I guess there will be an only chick now, if the remaining egg hatches.

The one egg hatched last night. It's a beautiful little chick. :) :love It's so great to see it peaking out from under Sugar's wing.
Here's a picture:

The chick is the black fuzzy thing under Sugar's chest.
