Just reminding all -- shop well.

I wanted a supply of fresh bay leaves. The McC bottle was $4.69, .12 oz, many broken leaves. Went to the ethnic section of this groc store (I use this variety often) and bought .20 oz for $1.19, nice whole leaves in a small cellophane (?) bag.

A small item, others available in that line. Heck, if I could save that much on others items, I'd be rich.

👍
$6 gets me one of those huge plastic bottles that hold like a quart of bay leaves at one of the Asian stores. I probably need to replace it. Whats left is a couple years old now. I don't nornally buy herbs and spices at grocery stores. If I do it's bulk at Winco. Prices for bottles is highway robbery

For me, the expense of $6 is better than buy a bush & nurture it. Primarily since the container provides more than my needs for a couple of years. I've made myself look harder at need/effort/cost in a better light. Like not devoting space to grow something I eat sparingly. 🤷 Garden math, toil efforts.

Exactly! I bought a car trunk full of seasoned, split firewood yesterday. The seller primarily sells to folks camping at the nearby state park. In the grand scheme of things, the price was way high. But you know, I didn't have to do anything but unload and stack it. We'll only have a few fires this fall anyways. Yes, I have a source of wood on the part of the property across the road in an emergency.

Working a full time job and everything else requires my choices to be made per my evaluations. For everyone else, YMMV. Not all of us have the circumstances (money, health, time, ability, etc) to be able to do everything 100% on our own. We do the best we can

Yep...beef is expensive! Makes me think I need to raise one again. Then, I stop and say, only me. Buy some. Besides, goat is good red meat. Faster grow out and smaller amount. 😁

I keep looking at another hog. Much tastier when home raised!

Chickens for Fall butcher, growing now. Thanks to my broody hens. Takes longer than CCX but, works for me right now. While I'm still working a job!! ;)
I just tried some local pork a heritage breed. Wow! I knew the supermarket pork was not good but I have finally decided to start improving the quality while still keeping the cost from crazy land. We have a local meat marked that sells sides of NY strip that is wonderful best we have ever had for 5.99 -> now 6.99/lb The supermarket is 14.99/17.99 @ Kroger. So we buy and vacuum seal and freeze to get better pricing.

The pork I used to make home made Italian sausage, I was getting the Costco Premio but they stopped carrying it and now have their own cheap 2.99/lb but a real step down in taste. While I am paying more per pound it is healthier meat by far, giving money to my local community, and a serios jump in taste. So this year the freezer is stocked with stuff running about 6$/lb instead of Gordon foods excel meat packer 80/20 for $4.00/lb and pork at 1.99/lb ish that I have NO idea what was in it but am quite sure it is from a beef feed lot fed with things I don't want to eat.

As to the thread opener - yes a misprint Ha! ... But I do want to know who may have bought it ??? o_Oo_O

...

Costco Beef brisket was $4.99 but I bought it for $3.50 on sale last week at other store.
That's pretty much the top I will pay 3.50 ish ... so I have not made any in a while since I regularly see $4.50 or more. I also used to take sirloin tip and brisket 50/50 ground burger but both are to high to justify the work any more ...

@mkirkpatrick6411 Yes. Beef is expensive now. A friend who raises beef said they'd not be eating it if not raised, due to price 🤣. I'm definitely sending a goat to butcher this winter, home grown. Still looking for a pig...found 2 but need to schedule a drive time for pick up. Prob couple weeks out. Then a spring freezer fill for those.
