Well you sound busy! Did your soaps sell well? You didn't say much about your show. I know an awful lot of work had to go into that. But now you are probably all set up for shows all the time.

Hey SD....I just noticed this:

Now I'll stop hijacking Glenolam's journal....who knows if she has any cobwebs around her place....probably not, right?

Now, I must say I absolutely have cobwebs around my house (who doesn't, right??) But I can also say I HATE them and every time I see one I rip it right down. It's really hard in the kitchen/living room as it's one big room with cathedral ceilings and big huge wood beams everywhere. Talk about cobweb central! I need a 6ft ladder to get some of the big ones and usually just hope no one notices them!

On the other hand.....the chicken coop/goat barn - well, those cobwebs stay there until the wind blows them down!


Well - I covered my table fee about two times over. In my mind that's all I wanted but from a business stand point, not so good. But I had fun and met a bunch of people for "connections" and got info on other craft shows.

Most people bought from the "Rummage Bin" that I set up. It was just a basket that had ends and crappy peices in it. I even gave a few peices away to some kids that were looking for presents for their mothers. I had all these 'junk' peices in my curing bins that I thought why not try to sell them? I didn't sell them for much....2 peices for $2, but it's better than having them just sit and not get any $$ for them.

Next time I'm going to put some napkins that compliment the brown table cloth down under the soaps. One thing I noticed was the little crumbs that fell all over the table. Being that the cloth was brown and the soap crumbles were off white they really stood out. So I'll try to have those crumbles blend in a little more.

Dang....I realized I never posted a picture of my table, did I?

PS....Yes, I know, I know....shoulda ironed that table cloth. Well, wouldn't ya know it's just a sheet that I bought from Walmart since I'm too cheap to buy a $15 table cloth!

Snow? Oh, I'm sure that is not a happy site.

But I love your booth! Making connections is very important! You should give yourself a big pat on the back. Maybe the rummage bin is a sign that you should try for small packages/bars and not sets. Like single small bars, and have a few inexpensive ones so you could say prices "start at ____" so people start handling the soap. People are all so broke right now, lots of us foregoing luxuries we might have hopped on in the past.

I find I really like my soap after washing my hands with it, and it doesn't feel like my hands need lotion. Can you set up a washing station? My interest in goats prompted my interest in soap, not the other way around, but I like goat milk soap much more than any other kind of soap I've ever used. Since the rest of my family agrees, we can't be the only ones. I think if you could set up a hand washing station somehow, or even just wash the back of their hand or something, that would sell this kind of soap.

Great idea....someone said something a few posts back (or in another place all together...) about putting some in the bathroom with a sign saying "Like this? Buy some at XX!" I thought about doing that, but for whatever reason just didn't.

I'm not sure about having a 'washing station' but I guess I could set up a smaller table with an old fashioned sink bowl filled with water and go that route. I'm sure it'd be simple to run to the sink to drain/rinse out the bowl - and if I do any outside shows I can just dump the water on the lawn (as long as the people don't mind) and fill up from a jug I'll bring.

PS....Yes, that's snow.....great big ol' chunks were coming down. It's switched to rain now, but jeez. After a wicked nice weekend with warm temps this is what we get.

Yeah, that would have been my view too if I'd had a window to look out of! Some of my students are very literal minded. They've been told that spring started yesterday so apparently it's practically a crime that it snowed today. Or at least a physical impossibility! I took great joy in telling them about the April blizzards I have seen here in CT!

What if you just washed the back of people's hands? Use a little soapy washcloth and then a clean washcloth to wipe the soap off? You'd have to have a supply of washcloths but wouldn't have to leave your booth. And if someone brings by a kid who has just eaten you can offer to be REALLY a useful booth to stop at!
