Day 5 - Racked into secondary this evening gravity was 1.018 so about 6.67%ish ABV (Alcohol By Volume) right now. I'll take a final gravity when I bottle. Of course I had to sample, its very smooth, hardly any hop bitterness.
Nasty primary oxyclean to the rescue.
Yeast washing in 1/2 gallon mason jar - money saver for sure.
Day 6 - Yeasties are cleaning up after themselves and clearing out the beer top to bottom.
Yeast washing after sitting around 24 hours in the keezer @ around 40 degrees. The Ale yeast has fallen out of suspension and gathered on the bottom in hibernation. As long as it stays cold it should be good for about a year. A great way to save a little money. The yeast from one of these jars is way more than enough to ferment 5 gallons of wort.
Day 9 - Still clearing out in the secondary fermenter. Not surprised this batch is taking longer to clear, it had an of original gravity 1.068. Which is quite a bit higher than my first batch, which was 1.052. Hopefully it'll be ready to bottle Thursday or Friday.
Can't bottle until its completely done fermenting though or else your pretty much guaranteed to be cleaning up beer from blown off bottle caps.
