O.K... DS(12) discovered Alexa... I spent the last 30 minutes laughing so hard I have tears running down my cheeks here. He keeps asking her the strangest things and telling her to do all sorts of stuff, like sing him songs. I got to say hats off to that one! She handled him brilliantly. No matter how odd the question or request, she had a come back for him.

I know, it is almost scary to think that they are recording us all the time and looking for "key words". They say it is an effort to "make your experience better" but all it is for is their marketing. I used to wonder why all the weird ads would pop up on my computer - then I realized that it was their "tracking" my searches.
My phone can't understand me when I try to give voice commands, it is downright hilarious for anyone with me, but somehow it can understand general conversation??

I'm cool with being paranoid! Had big family drama when my SIL posted pics of my kid on Facebook. Haven't spoken since (due to her reaction of near-refusal and berating us). Less info is better !

I find it quite scary and at the same time it makes me really angry that this is happening. It's a massive invasion of privacy and completely unacceptable, no matter what colour Google paints it. I know FB messenger messages are not completely private either. I went through some trouble in my personal life a few years ago and discussed it with a friend over there. FB popped a counselling service ad in my newsfeed, suggesting I need it?!? Needless to say I sent them packing and my friend and I found a different site to stay in touch on, in-between phone conversations.

As for Alexa... Sure she only listens when you say her name. Like my phone only listens when I say "O.K. Google" or clicks on the microphone, which I never do...

As long as the tablet is working it looks like he'll be happy! YaY!!!!
It is and he is delighted with it :) Still no sign of the Alex, so it looks like I don't have to worry about her. DS natters nonstop when playing games, so she'll find it hard to keep quiet if she is listening.

Or at all when you have your phone on. We were talking about Israel the other day, my phone was in my pocket and then I started getting ads for vacations to Israel. Then we were talking about adoption and I'm now getting ads from adoption services. Super creepy.
