I only make freezer jam, so I am no help :D

To me, freezing keeps more of the fresh flavor. If people are used to a cooked jam, that may be the problem.

Don't you cook freezer jam?

Ok, now the boy is sitting here wanting to know if we can freeze black caps for making jam at a later date?
He had tooth pulled yesterday and slept most of the day, now he's bouncing off the walls wanting to do something, but is not supposed to do any thing strenuous!
I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee, picking berries sounds really strenuous to me.

Welcome, Thewife!

Send the boy out to pick blueberries- that way you don't have to. Blueberry jam is heaven- my favorite by far. It's a simple as any other jam- mush up the blueberries, boil a bit, add sugar and pectin, pour into jars and boil them. I hate taking up freezer space with things that I actually am capable of canning.
