Hmmmm, teacher was out today because she had to take DS #6 to the doctor and yet she just posted on Facebook that's she's half to Canada for her big trip????

I read it no less than 5 times before I dared respond AND forwarded it to DH and my mom AND asked my coworker to read it. There are entire passages I still don't understand. With vacation coming I was not up for requesting that she clarify every little thing. She seems to think that either I have an innate knowledge of how her classroom and the general school schedule functions or that DS explains things to me in a way that would make me understand. Did I mention that my DH now has her youngest son in his class? (8th grade). Nightmare! He was kicked out the first day, nearly kicked out the second day. DH is in daily contact with her over the kid. Ugh!

We just got back from the Cub Scout pancake breakfast fundraiser at Applebee's where I worked side by side with the president of the PTO of DS's current school AND the 4thd grade teacher from the Catholic school he'll go to next year. They have been friends for a long time. The teacher knows we were considering pulling DS out so she came right out and asked me if we'd decided. The PTO president was a little surprised but not totally. Her question was then "who's his teacher?" When I told her she left out a laugh and said that explained it. Her kids never had this teacher but in all her years at the school she's never heard one good thing about her. Yikes! That's the teacher's entire career at the school!! PTO pres. has promised not to say anything. She agreed my concerns about them writing DS off as soon to be someone else's problem were well founded. Her youngest is off to the middle school next year so she won't be around anyway. Interesting, no?

To do list for vacation week:
Saturday night-scoop up a bunch of toys from DS's shelf to sort while watching Red Sox game.
Sunday-church
continue DS's room cleaning
possible letterboxing hike depending on soggy weather
Monday-DS's pediatrician appt. I was warned by a mom this morning that he isn't going to want to deal with DS's attention issues. Cool! Works for me. I just need his opinion for the meeting then I can move on.
Tuesday-My follow-up with Naturopath
Kitchen purging
Setting up seed starting area. I'm late but better late
than never!
Little League practice
Wednesday- possible day trip
Little League clinic
DH's band rehearsal
Cub Scout pack committee meeting
Thursday-DH wants us to visit his parents. 2.5 hours each way.
Don't think I can talk him out of it and probably shouldn't
Friday- DH has am plans so DS and I will do something on our own
I guess. Maybe hang out at the Science Center or meet DH
there when he's done with his meeting

In case the school team has any questions about why we are pulling DS out, here is an email sent from a community member:
"Tuesday evening is your opportunity to voice your opinion to the Board
of Finance about the budget proposal that will be submitted to the
voters in May. If you want an opportunity to vote for a budget that
stops systematically undermining your investment in your home in
Windham, then it will be important to attend this forum and insist on
a opportunity to vote on a budget that proposed responsible investment
in the Town's future rather than continuing a downward spiral of
spending less and guaranteeing a future where we'll have even less.
Windham has been hemorrhaging middle class taxpayers and potential
taxpayers as a result of years of persistent underfunding of our
school district. Unfortunately, spending on education is not an
expense that we can decide upon without reference to how our schools
compare to those in nearby towns or the message that is sent about our
commitment to our community's future.
FACTS
1. The 2.35% in the school district budget proposed by the Board of
Finance will not even cover the increase in the school district's
health care coverage costs (that would take an approximately 3.25%
increase).
2. The school district has been so persistently underfunded that this
year's budget (adjusted for inflation) would need to be increased by
more than one-third in order to achieve the level of education that
our schools offered six years ago. A return to where the Windham
Schools were during the 2004-2005 school year would require a budget
increase of almost $14 million. The reality is that it's not possible
to cut school funding as deeply as we have without having negative
consequences for the community. The negative consequence already are
evident, and they will continue until we do something proactive to
reverse the trend. The 2010-2011 budget as proposed will make things
worse.
3. Simply maintaining this year's already drastically reduced support
for education requires an increase of 5.4%.
4. In just the past three years, Windham has laid off ten percent of
our teachers and twenty percent of our paraprofessionals (throwing out
of work people who were not well paid to begin with).
5. If we pass only a 2.35% increase the Board of Education will be
compelled to layoff approximately 10 more teachers (it would be 14 had
the teacher's union not been willing to make a quarter million dollar
concession in the interest of saving some of those jobs).
In May taxpayers should have an opportunity to vote for sustaining our
schools at their present level (5.4%) instead of continuing to
mortgage the Town's future by using the school budget as if it were a
piggy bank (one that's just about empty). At the very least, the
budget should cover the increases in health care costs (3.25%).
Past budget failures to invest in our community have clearly been
"penny wise and pound foolish." If people wonder why the town is poor,
the answer is that we've pretty much brought it upon ourselves.
Please encourage others who may not be on this email list to come to
the budget forum as well. Thanks."
It doesn't even give the statistics on how ALL our schools are considered to be failing. That's 4 elementary schools, one middle and one high school. Horrifying!

On a much lighter note, some pictures from our Cub Scout Opening Day fishing derby. It was at the home of one of the leader's step mother. They have a little petting zoo and lots of birds as you can see.
How funny is that the ad on Photobucket as I was uploading these shots was an LLBean ad for a $60 raincoat? I can't believe I'm posting a pic of that hideous jacket DH is wearing!
This little donkey was so soft and sweet! I want one now....
And I so wanted to sneak this home to see if we could get it cleaned up and running but it wouldn't fit in the trunk of the Jetta. DH was also trying to stuff a '39 Buick in there....
