Never mind me... I'm just here to say I fought this wicked fire board and won.

The trick to overcoming this stuff is to treat it like plywood (really heavy very hard and brittle plywood). You simply ain't gonna score it with a razor knife and snap it. You ain't gonna tap it into place with a framing hammer and a length of 2x4. No... You must use a metal cutting blade to saw it and you must use a minimum 3 lbs sledge hammer and a length of 2x4 to pound it into place! And oh think you can easily drive a drywall screw in this stuff? Think again, a pilot hole is required!

So just stop with those "drywall" thoughts. Rebuke them! Get them out of your mind!

I've hung my fair share of drywall over the years. But this stuff is some kind of wickedness, I've never encountered before. I'm going to get a big fire going in the burn barrel and see if this fire board will burn or not. I'm thinking there's no way this stuff will burn, not even in hell would this stuff burn.

Finally this 24' wall has fire board hung \o/

After a long hard day of fighting evil, it's time to go take a long soak in the jacuzzi and get to bed early. At least tomorrow two brothers will be here @ 9:00 AM sharp to help me rebuke any more wickedness should "it" decide rear it's ugly head.

All I can say wickedness, WATCH OUT!!! I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE, TO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO SHOW UP! ---> Ecclesiastes 4:12

Roughed out hole for the chimney and no purlins in sight :) finally something is going right \o/ I'm back on familiar ground now, it's just wood ๐Ÿ‘ That vent will help blow the heat off the stove pipe, don't you would think? ๐Ÿค”

Now I know why my wife left this pretty pillow in the cave. I found a use for it ๐Ÿ˜‚

Us old guys are slow but we are precise, we make every move count. Chimney is in, and calked with silicone. I need to go and get a 10" rubber boot but that can wait until the silicone dries. I rate the chimney installation - easy.

6' of pipe got the stack well above the ridge for a good draw.

The box, instructions said a minimum of 2" below the ceiling we placed it approximately 3" below the ceiling. The pipe is a little under 20" from the wall which also exceeds 18" minium required.

Absolutely no evil showed up today ๐Ÿคฃ but I'm still feeling my fight with that evil fire board from yesterday. I think I'll eat a big lunch then take a bit of a nap ๐Ÿ˜ด

I was told each sheet weighed 67 lbs but the return system says 74 lbs. And I hung 6 sheets of this wicked stuff by myself. I'm not exactly a strapping young lad anymore. It's no wonder I feel like I had a fight with a demon. But ole wicked fire board obviously didn't read 1 John 4:4!

You have absolutely no idea how happy I am to have returned 4 sheets of this stuff. I never want to see it again.

Ok this is more my speed. Even though I just unloaded these 44 lbs a piece sheets in doubles for 88lbs by myself. It's currently 51 degrees and I'm sweating. This "easi-lite" is still much better that that evil fire board any day of the week!

Pipe boot came in and I installed it today. It's not your normal kind of pipe roof boot. It had an aluminum ring that easily formed to the shape of the metal roof and I screwed it down with metal roofing screws. This was my first time installing one of these kind of boots. But I rate the installation very easy.

I told my wife, Now all I have to do is inside piping and replace some fire brick, move it into place, hook up the pipe and Lord willing we have our first fire Sunday evening, just in time for the cold front that the weather guessers are saying is coming.

It hit the low 70's today, clear and sunny what an absolutely beautiful day ๐Ÿ‘

What's This? Ahead of schedule for once ๐Ÿ‘

I lit the fire and opened it all the way up. This thing will run you out of the cave. Got it hardly open now and it's nice and toasty warm. It's a much different kind of heat, you feel it good and deep.

This concludes this thread. Work In Progress is now done โœ…

Well I've had ole momma bear fired for 24 hours. I'm pleased with it so far. Barely open, it does simmer a pot of water. I packed it last night before bed and set it to barely open. It's still working on last night's load this evening. It was rainy windy and in the low 60's today, the cave is about 75 degrees with just the heat pump fan on and momma bear bearly open.

I closed both air intakes and went to town this afternoon. I was gone about an hour and a half. When I came back, the stove pipe was cool enough to touch. So shot 4 sheet metal screws around each stove pipe joint. And I caulked all the stove pipe joints with high temp silicone. However the momma bear was still pretty warm. There's a lot of thick steel on ole momma bear, so it takes a long time for all that steel to cool off.

When I was done caulking, I opened the door, stirred up the charcoal bed with an ash scoop and blew a couple of deep breath into the coal bed and it started right back up again.

The real test will come tomorrow and until mid week, according to the weather guessers.

I think this is about it for bringing back to life a 1980's Fisher momma bear wood stove. I can't think of anything that needs doing. I even picked up a 6 gallon ash pale. To amend the garden with wood ash. I guess there's nothing left to do but feed it wood and brush out the pipe at the end of the heating season. I do Iike it by the entrance door, when you open the door you are hit with a deep feeling warmth.
