I might use deet when I go bird hunting.

Just an example. There are others. Not trying to flame, just pointing out what you obviously overlooked. I think the whole idea of natural remedies is taking a conscious look at the things we are doing to our bodies with chemicals, and trying to avoid it.
but, you just got a little bit of the thread, if you read the whole thing, I would only use deet and other smelly things because the birds won't smell you. not trying to flame also :)

I did read the whole thread. I just want you guys to know there are alternatives. I know about deet and deer hunting, but neem oil is natural and only smells for a little while. And it works. I am trying to allow you alternatives to the chemicals. Deet is carcinogenic. I cringe when I hear that people still use it. DH has used it, and he is gonna be using neem oil this year. He thinks I'm nuts, but when I find something that works, he usually listens. :weee

A personal opinion if we can't find a natural way. :)
once again no flames, right?
No flames, but I encourage you to try the neem oil. I'm a nurse and I just don't like to see people using chemicals if they can use natural. Test it before hunting season, just to see. And let me know!

Thank you for caring about my and other tickees health. Where can I get some of this neem oil?

Health food store. Not cheap, very small bottle, but lasts a long while. For heavy insect exposure, put a drop on each shoulder and each foot, about an hour before the hunt. That gives time for the smell to dissipate.

We used it last night, same way, cuz the mosquitos are so bad. Worked good. Use it on the dogs for ticks and fleas, works great on them too.

Ticks, I order bulk all-natural lotion to use in my lotion sales. If you mix the Neem in a carrier like that it might go farther and last longer than just using the oil by itself. I have made a bug repellent for horses and dogs using grapeseed oil, lavender EO, citronella EO and lemon EO. It saves me money to use them in a carrier than to try and use the actual oils. Might try that?

The problem is for deer hunting. All those oils will alert the animals, so it's not a good solution. However, the lotion with just neem oil may work.

I love venison, so a good solution to this problem works for me as well.
