Awful lot of nosy questions on here and BYH....what power source do you use, what animals are you keeping, etc. Not something I'd want to divulge to just anyone in these days and times.

Here's a question: Why do you want to know these things, Project Manager?

It’s the business model to have active conversation and participation, which draws in advertising clients. Starting topics which may be of interest to members here is one way to encourage that activity. Isn’t the whole point of being a member of boards like this to chat and share information? Get to know each other, compare notes?

As @flowerbug said, no one has to post anything personal on the internet that they don’t want to divulge.

So, it's good business that generates such polls.....and, incidentally, to get to know each other? Or is it to know which advertising to post? Please don't be disconcerted by my questions...I'm just trying to get to KNOW you. ;)

I appreciate a good-natured exchange of ideas. We can give each other encouragement and share what does and does not work well for us. If folks don't want to participate they are certainly not forced to, but discouragement and negativity certainly isn't needed here.

Oh - I'm on the grid and have a generator for back-up. We keep a bit of gasoline to run said generator. Do I worry about divulging such private personal information - nope. I refuse to live a life based in fear and paranoia!

😉 Exactly!

Have you watched the Netflix film The Social Dilemma? It’s a docudrama, so it’s a little exaggerated, but it explains the very thing you are concerned about. It’s not sites like SS that are the problem, but our own smart phones, and the big players like Google, Facebook and Microsoft. Advertising is a huge business and generates a lot of profits.

But I agree with @frustratedearthmother , I’m not going to be paranoid about it. Just prudent to not post the types of information that identity thieves use. And I’m just not into the major types of social media anyway.

Oh, and we are on the grid. 100% electric. We rarely lose power, and then it’s usually just a flicker.

Edit: I forgot, our heat is geothermal with electric furnace for auxiliary.
