I am curious: Who here doesn't use Wal-mart? Why??

I make $18.26 an hour as a GS 7. To approach $35/hour I would have to be a GS12. That is really getting up there in the government service.

I have to add in my Army retirement to reach that wage. I'm glad I followed good financial advice and kept my debt down. I'm also very thankful that I am essentially debt free and living comfortably, not extravagantly, just comfortable and within my means.

I am only a senior tax accountant. Not exactly high up on the food chain here at work.

And it is wonderful that you have been able to keep your debt low. The running up of my credit cards was not my idea; nor was it within my control. And when I did use them, it was for frivolous things like utilities, food, car repairs, medical bill, and food. so, I can't be smug about it like others can be.

I never meant to start a thread about my salary. It's lower than most people here at work; it's lower than ALL of my friends. I was just trying to show sympathy for the person who managed on $7 an hour.

Well, I think Henry Ford's original concept of making a car that would be affordable to the workers who actually made the cars a good financial barometer.
Can those making WM's products afford WM's products? If they are sold for the same prices in the countries of origin as we pay here in the states, then it isn't successful. If WM's own employees can't afford the products, maybe going over to Goodwill to make ends meet, it isn't successful.

A family of 4 or more with a single wage earner would have a hard time making ends meet.

what I find bewildering is all those who hate Walmart YET shop it "just a little"---moan and groan about it but still give their $$$ to support what they despise.

ETA: FC: You really do make a good point. Sometimes I do better than others at putting my $ where my beliefs are. It's influenced by how much time I have (WM is 10 min away, better stores are 45 min away) and how much $.

I am not a fan of any monolopy type corporation, who would be but some my family works at walmarts and at this point I do support their jobs with my dollars. The stores have what I need and I enjoy them. Being in the South I guess our employees are just friendlier than a few of the others who said they were treated badly...lol

OH MY--don't bring up TIME---having TIME and battling to have SOME is the story of my life...literally...LOL

Time crunches make people do unusual things they normally wouldn't...I could tell you some of my time problems and solutions but then I's have to kill ya....
