Good question, Icu4dzs stated that anything stored must not have any batteries energy stored in the item or an antenna.
But its a good question whats the use of having items that run on electricity when there is no electricity? :/

Opiemaster,
You have identified a serious problem that most of us understand will be a VERY difficult issue to reconcile with your conscience. While we all feel we should help our own people, there comes a point when you need to expect those who need help to HELP THEMSELVES.
The issue will be, you help them but they will need to help you...work! If they lead someone else to you who is NOT there to be nice, you may have to make a decision that will be unhappy for all...SSS.

We will see a rapid reintegration of the "feudal system" in such a situation because there are people who will prepare and there will be a significantly larger number who won't. they will either think they will mooch or just steal/kill you to get it. Doesn't sound all that "sportsmanship and fair play" but then they have already proven they won't work for society, so why should they work for what you have when they can just steal/kill? It is an ugly situation to be sure. Think about what might be going on in places like East St. Louis? Can you imagine being within 200 miles of that place? Not me thankyou very much!

Of course your water may be a help in reducing your exposure to "unwanted visitors"

Your question about electricity is valid. Being able to generate electricity is of paramount importance if you want to continue living in the 20th century. Solar panels won't be damaged because they are NOT printed circuits. Having a generator will need to be kept in a Faraday cage because it will have some printed circuits. As long as you can MAKE electricity, you can have it and anything it will power assuming you can make enough to power what you want. Knowing those two elements is key to getting through this. You won't be able to operate heaters with electricity, but light, radio, etc. Things that don't require huge amounts of electricity will work OK. Your washer and dryer are out of the deal here. Your computer may work but the internet will be down so you will need to know what to do with a computer on your own.

Big items with large resistance coils will NOT work. Water heaters, etc. Keep in mind, if you need heat to stay alive, you will need an alternative to electric heat. Put more effort into insulation than into generating heat. It is easier to do in the long run.

Being SS now is a hobby. Being SS in that setting will be a necessity and don't forget, you will probably have to defend yourself more than once.
