I think you may be just far enough south of me, that you see the difference in your flock's winter production compared to my birds. My winter days are shorter! According to google, in my town: In 2020, the shortest day is December 21, with 8 hours, 49 minutes of daylight; the longest day is June 20, with 15 hours, 34 minutes of daylight.

I'm curious... try a google search for the shortest day in your town, and see how your daylight compares.

Here it's Dec 21 with 9hr & 28 min....Jun 20, 14 hr & 52 min.

Little more in winter, little less in summer. Temps differ dramatically, also. LOL

Beautiful winter day here in Maine. I feel deeply, passionately, blessed. When I went out to tend the flock, the weather had warmed up to 20*, (after a night time low of 12*). It was 40* in the bird's sunroom at the time! Our winter has, thus far, been mild. Days are getting longer, and, soon... very soon... the busyness of an other season of gardening, building, and flock renewal will begin.

Hubby split up some wood with the new electric wood splitter. He says it is working well. Yet, an other blessing.

LOL LOL Warming up tp 20 degrees is not considered a mild winter here! 20* is full blown WINTER! And it usually only lasts a week......

Ideal hatchery has some awesome specials on ducks and chicks right now. I'm drooling. But... no way would I consider brooding ducks in February! But... Oh the drool! I think they will do mixed shipments of ducks/chicks.
