I hear you on electric bills. No matter what is done to cut, they still get jacked up somewhere.

Our electric bill was the highest EVER this past month. Hey, I was reading your 2million questions and seen that you like Smith Mnt Lake. We LOVE Smith Mnt Lake! My hubby's from Rocky Mount and we have a bunch of friends up there.

Yep, here is the pic of our current house when it was sitting on Smith Mtn Lake

We were on the Franklin County Side. My FIL has a home on the Bedford county side and all my family is from Scruggs and Moneta.
We love it there....that's where I grew up

You moved your house?? Off the lake??

Yeah, long story short....the doublewide belonged to my granny and papa and her siblings forced the sale of her family's land. She has some medical issues and the house is not totally handicapped accessible so my papa wanted to build a new house on the new property they bought. After a year and a half of trying to sell the doublewide with no luck they gave it to us for xmas 2009 and when my husband's dad gave us 3 acres on his family land we moved it to Powhatan, and not without drama.

Trust me....I would have rather kept the place at the lake....we got married in her front yard down by the water in that pic. I grew up down there-my tiny handprints are in the concrete boat ramp in the front yard.

Our family had 300+ acres before the lake was put in and 97 acres with 3 miles of waterfront after the lake finished filling up. We allowed single and doublewide trailers to come in and rented out 112 lots (mostly waterfront) on a yearly basis. We had a lot of full timers living there in addition to my granny, her brother, and one sister.

They tore down the old homestead and barns, chicken coop, smokehouse, and milking parlor (still had the stainless steel tank in it) but they haven't gotten to the 3 or 4 tobacco barns yet. We're planning on getting some of the barn boards and making a hutch/bookshelf thing and a new kitchen table out of them.

It sucks. My two babies took their first swim there...me too for that matter and I'm 35.

Wow that is quite the story! Sorry you had to move but hey you can't beat a gift like that!

So your granny had 300 acres before they dammed the lake and then 200 of it went underwater? My hubby says there are still houses there under the water. Is he messin' with me?

Nope, he is not messing with you.....one of our family friends is on the rescue dive team for the lake and she says they have seen some pretty cool stuff down there on practice runs. Appalachian Power put in the lake and there is a clause on the deed to the land that if the lake ever "goes away" the land will revert back to my family. Funny huh?

There are places in the lake that are over 100feet deep. It is amazing.
