Low carb eaters.....

{patiently chuckling} Yes, BBH, twelve servings, six cups. The goal. You probably won't always be able to do that many, but it is great for your body. Now does the "poopin' 2-3 times a day" thing make more sense??? The USDA's 5-9 servings suggestion was going to be much more, but they didn't want to overwhelm the poor widdle public, who might just give up veggies altogether! Disbiosis doesn't stand a chance with that many veggies.

Dace, yogurt is to Clark Kent what kefir is to Superman. If you can get some grains and make your own, it is worth it. If you are buying kefir in the health food store, it is not nearly as good as homemade, so you could just stick to yogurt. Yogurt has 3-5 beneficial cultures and kefir had 30-50, plus other stuff that the nerds can't even figure out. But my new dog with the skin issues (clearing up!) now cries for it every night when I strain the milk and strain the kefir and make a new batch. He knows it is good....he gets a little plain milk in the morning and his response to kefir is very different. He gets 1/4 to 1/2 cup every night now. And he is only a skinny 18 lbs. Animals don't lie!

.....returning from a little disbiosis Google trip....

Ok Kefir grains are probably something I need to obtain from a friend? or can I buy them?

Are we your most difficult & needy students ever????

:lau I figured you'd google!!!

Kefir grains are usually shared....OK, who is near Dace with kefir grains??? They are not grains, but a colony like kombucha, that you put into the milk and it kefirs in a day or so at any room temp. So simple, easier than yogurt. The grains/colonies grow and you will have some to share.

Difficult/needy? A joy when someone wants to try things and asks questions. You should see some of the letters I get (Sally, your's makes me very misty-eyed, even the hundredth time I read it!). It is the whiners that drive me nuts! But the worst whiners are generally won over if they stick it out for an average of 5 weeks. Yes, I count, because it happens every time.:D

Awww....well I am ever so grateful for your patience and willingness to share your wisdom! :bow

I am not even to week two and am completely 100% won over to this new way of eating!

Do I need raw milk for kefir?

Off to PM Tanks to see if she has kefir!

I have some if you are interested. I just had to thin it out recently too, it grows so fast!

Is there anyone near Texas that can share Kefir or Kombucha with me? I will pay for shipping....:hide
And my biggest problem is being hungry in the evening, but I am thinking that with my feed bag I should be able to change all that...
