Here's a mix you shouldn't eat :)
My mix for my powdered laundry soap:

Meg's Wash Day Laundry Powder

1 cup Grated and whizzed up Laundry Soap (I use a Sunlight laundry bar, can also use Castille soap)
1 cup Borax
1 cup Washing Soda
1/2 cup Baking Soda

Making your own laundry soap is so easy!

I just grate a bar of Sunlight soap and let it dry out for a few days, then whazz it up in a blender until fine and powdery. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together and then put it into a pretty jar or container. I use 2tbsp per wash. That's it! Get's everything nice and clean. For tougher stuff, or to brighten whites I add a half scoop of oxyclean to the load.

As an alternative to fabric softener I just add plain white vinegar to a 'downy' ball, and throw it in with the wash. Everything comes out clean, fresh and not overly fragranced.

Btw, this laundry mix lasts for ages. I've used only two batches of mix since March and I have lots of Borax/Washing powder left over to make more.

edited to add: how did I miss the homemade laundry soap thread?? Oh well, this post fits here too ;)

All the talk on another thread about hot cocoa got me wondering if I had posted that recipe :)

Hot Cocoa Mix:
1 cup powdered nondairy creamer
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup milk powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon

You can run this through a blender to make it smoother. The cinnamon really adds the touch of extra flavor that makes it special. We use this with milk, but I think it would work fine with water, too.

Anyone got pancake mix recipe that I can just add water?

Its getting expensive buying those just add water pancake mixes in a jug for camping.
When we go camping, we bring pancake mix and some applesauce. You just pour some applesauce into the bag of pancake mix and mush until it seems the right consistency, adding more applesauce if you need to. Makes great pancakes!

This is cose to my recipe. Instead of adding cinnamon, try using french vanilla creamer. It adds a yummy flavor as well!!

I have been doing this for over almost 30 yrs! I have a book(I'm on my second one actually!) called Make Your Own Groceries- ByDaphne Metaxas Hartwig I found my second one on amazon for like $4! It has many more pudding mixes than just vanilla. I make my own catsup from this book: Catsup
3 1/2C.tomato sauce
1/4t.celery seed
4T.+2t. sugar(I sometimes only use honey as we try to stay away from sugar)
1 3/4T. salt
1/4t. onion powder(I add more)
1/8t. pepper
4T+2t.light corn syrup(I don't do this as we also try to stay away from this, I add honey instead)
4T.+2t. white vinegar
2T.+1t. lemon juice
Dash cayenne pepper(I add more)

DH and DGD like this a lot better than store bought. It takes a while to get it thick though. I have thought about adding something to thicken it but I haven't yet.

Pour 1C.sauce into blender, blend at high 1 full min.Pour into heavy, high sided non-aluminum pot; repeat blending only 1C. at a time. This thickens it a bit. If using a processor blend all at onece until smooth, stopping to scrape sides now and then. In mortar and pestle crush celery seed to powder;or blend seed, sugar and salt, whirl until powdered. Mix dry seasonings into sauce. Gently boil uncovered 25-30 min. stirring frequently. Remove sauce when it is as thick as a rich spaghetti sauce and able to make loose mounds. It should be a bit thicker than you want your finished catsup.
Cool quikly by immersing in sink of cold water while stirring. When cool, stir in corn syrup, vinegar and lemon juice until blended. Pour into clean bottles. Keep in fridge 4-6 months.

I like to make batches of cookie recipes to keep on hand. I mix all the dry ing. put into a container. Label it with the name, ing. still needed and temp of oven and any special directions. It helps a lot at Christmas also.
