Make-Your-Own mixes

Well I have all the dry supplies on hand, so I may try this once my current creamers run out. Yes, plural. French Vanilla and Italian Sweet Cream. I like my coffee.

:gig me too, but I drink mine black, no sugar.

Got the stuff I was missing and made the fajita seasoning! Can't wait to try it out!! =D

1 jar honey
1 cinnamon stick
2 whole cloves
2 whole allspice
Put honey into an attractive jar. Add cinnamon, cloves & allspice. Set container in a bowl of hot water for 20 mins for flavors to develop. Put lid on jar. This makes an excellent gift for honey lovers(or tea lovers). It is delicious on muffins & bagels.
Now that I have my bees installed, I'm starting to fantasize about making up gift jars like this recipe!
 
Ok--all you yogurt makers and egg gatherers:

Corn Bread Mix:
1 cup flour (whole wheat or pastry works great)
1 cup cornmeal
cup sugar
1 t baking soda
t salt

Store indefinitely. When ready to prepare, mix all dry ingredients in a medium-sized bowl. Make a well in the center. Dump in:

1 cup plain yogurt
2 eggs, beaten

Stir just until blended. Bake in greased 8x8 pan 20-25 min at 400.
 
Jambalaya Mix

1 c raw long-grain rice
1 T instant minced onion
1 T green bell pepper flakes
1 T parsley flakes
1 bay leaf
2 tsp beef bouillon granules
1/2 tsp garlic powder or granules
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp thyme
1/4 - 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper, depending on taste

Place mix in a jar or pour in a zip bag. Makes 1 1/2 Cups of Mix.


Attach recipe below, to jar:

Jambalaya

1 1/2 c Jambalaya Mix
3 c water
8 oz can tomato sauce
1/2 c cooked ham or smoked sausage
1/2 c cooked shrimp (optional)

Combine first three ingredients and bring to a boil in a 6 quart pot .
Reduce heat to simmer; add ham or sausage and cook 20 minutes.
Add shrimp and cook 5 minutes more. Remove and discard bay leaf.

Makes about 8 cups.
 
Oooh--that sounds good :) How about Jambalaya with fresh cornbread? I even have all the ingredients (or close enough) for both! Thanks for helping me with supper tonight! And my family thanks you. They are so weary of soup that they're about to revolt.

Actually, m&tg - your post about cornbread is what brought that jambalya recipe to mind! :lol:
