In Livingston, I scrounged pecans on a vacant lot down the street. There are pecans in the city park here, but they are gone as soon as they hit the ground.

I wish we had nut trees here :( What we do have a LOT of is small wild apples. Tons of the stuff. I wonder what can be done with them… They're not very edible straight from the tree. Talking of which, I saw two trees on a nearby farm bearing tiny red apples, no bigger than cherries? Beautiful little things!

Probably crab apples, they are very good for jelly.

I don't think that it's fear that motivates a person to put things by; it's actually a supreme act of optimism- that you'll still be around to enjoy that item when the time comes. In the same way, I think planting a seed in the ground is one of the most profound acts of faith there is; you are entering into a covenant with God.

I like that! And, not only optimism to enjoy that item when the time comes, but optimism that you will "be there" when the "disaster" subsides.
