and the best part is they are 'camo' - so i'll never get tired of making the joke "honey! i cant find my boots".... i just love that. it never gets old!
Now I've just wet my pants and spewed my vino on the screen!!!!!

You are killing me first a GREAT evac story.....that was a full blown evacuation from your city life.
Ugh, I SOOOOOO want that dream. I am holding out hope. At some point it may become a possibility.

i was so excited to get up and wear my new boots! yay!
and yep - the 'evac' was something else. i'm hoping that i can show that you CAN do it. its not always easy, occasionally not fun, everyone will tell you that you cant.... but even if you are the only person who believes in you.... then why not try?
the hardest thing for me was getting over the 'myth' that you have to live your life a certain way. i remember driving to work one morning, in my early 20's, and i said to my commute buddy, 'you mean i have to get up EVERY morning, and drive thru this stupid traffic, and do this EVERY day?" that kinda seemed like a life sentence not a great life.
thats when i started to consider other options. it took me a while, but wow once i took that leap - that was it. it took on its own inertia and i just kept running with it.
sometimes my corporate buddies ask me these questions:
1. dont you miss The Job.
i usually laugh. nope. dont miss it at all. what part? all that life i'll never get back sitting in some stupid meeting? the commute? teaching someone more inexperienced than me to be my boss? having that boss take credit for my work? nope.
2. but dont i miss being PART of something?
are you kidding? selling software that may or may not work to people who may or may not need it? nope. i'm part of the whole circle of life now and thats way more satisfying.
3. dont you miss traveling and all that Good Stuff?
um... not really. the same 'oh wow' i got from seeing art hanging in a dusty museum is the same 'oh wow' i get from help a baby turkey hatch out of its egg. thats pretty oh wow. and because i'm not stressed anymore, i dont need all that stuff i 'deserve' for working so hard. besides, everyday feels like vacation to me!
4. but what about culture? the arts?
golly. if you arent part of pop culture on a daily basis - when you see it...honestly its kinda ugly. and the hens are entertainment enough. have you ever seen them fight over a mouse? thats REAL ultimate fighting, baby. and besides, after seeing some of the music award shows this year i'm glad i dont have all of that in my head. wowza.
5. but you arent using your intellect! you're getting stupid from playing in the dirt!
soil... not dirt... is kinda complicated actually. and i spend all day creatively solving problems and making something out of nothing. and i see results right in my hands.
6. but you're out there with all those rubes!
guess what! i'm one too! and the knowledge base here with all these 'plain' folks is amazing.
so thats what i learned.
