* OFG walks into her kitchen, red faced, dripping with sweat, bad hat, barn boots, and dirty tshirt covered with all manner of chick-icky-ness - feathers, various and sundry part, and "juice" all arranged in an abstract art piece called "DIE YOU STUPID MEAT DIE!"*
looks around, "hey guys! whats goin' on?"
SD is talking with Kai who is telling her how bad the service is, WifeZilla is playing with OFG's scifi action figures, AL is huddled up with Ti over a bottle of whiskey talking about old friends and daring deeds of valor, Hen and Java are finishing the rest of the pie, and Pepper is having the first meaningful conversion she's had since she's been here - with Abi.
BBH and SKR8PN are manning the grill.... and VPAK is seen in the distance inspecting the gardens. Lori and Marianne are making snacks.
Free has brought Nibbles in the house, is fanning her with palm fronds and feeding her peeled grapes.
so today didnt really go as expected. we are on the hot seat for a 100* heat index this afternoon - and it never did cool down last nite. we went out to find......
.....one of them stupid meats DEAD! thats right - keeled right over from a creepy little heart attack.
of course i was hat throwin' mad because you know i hate to waste anything. and tossing a slightly fermented 18 pound meat just really chapped my hide.
so we had to spring to action asap. The Big Man worked it out with his work to go in late. and then we got to whackin the meats before it got too hot and the rest of those son's-o-golly-whats flopped over dead.
we got six of the biggest ones done - some of them boys will feed us for a week! we probably should have done this earlier, but the week got away from us. hopefully the rest of them will make it thru the day. if they do we'll have the cool of next week to get the rest done.
so thats where i was, sending them meat to glory.

* OFG follows WZ out onto the deck balancing a tray of drinks - rum and coke for 'Zilla, brewskies for SKR8PN and BBH, pitcher of strawberry margaritas for everyone hangin' on the deck, and picks up conversation after passing drinks..... *
..... so what happened last nite at dinner with the MIL was not surprising....low lights included:
* hearing about how we dont have kids (us = angry glares at her)
* us thanking the husband when he paid for dinner, and having her say 'what about me too?' (um.. you havent worked in 20 freakin' years so thats not your money - and we are trying to be polite)
* then getting the "big present" - a copy of our sophomore year high school yearbook.
us: (blink blink) um.. we both have one of these at home. (and silently wondering where our case of beer was...which was his "big gift last year. and yeah it was opened)
her: but its your senior year book!!
us: no, we graduated in '85. this is from '83
her: oh.
(really????? HE IS HER ONLY KID)
her: so what do you want for your bday?
us: how about a new dryer?
her: oh i dont have an extra one of those
us: ok we need a pizza stone
her: oh i HAVE one of those, dig it out of one of our moving boxes.
note: not BUY or GET or ORDER one - we'll get a (lightly) used one. and she did make a crack about how we broke "that nice one" she got him 10 years ago.
so.
we laughed the whole way home. we also laughed about how we had to tell them for 15 mins that we had to get home to milk (about 7:45pm i started to get a twitch in my eye and was kicking TBM under the table because it was getting late). and then we finally made it outside.
and then they kept asking us if we wanted to go with them to the town's production of OKLAHOMA! on friday (staring the chiropractor) which starts at 7:30pm on friday. um. no. once again we tell them - this time with hand puppets - that WE HAVE LIVESTOCK and we have to be around in the evening to take care of them.
so thats what happened. once again proving that we really really really miss our grandma. and that his mom is a total weirdo.
