Ohiofarmgirl'sAdventuresinTheGoodLand-where ya been? whatcha been doin

its green bean mania!!! i just picked up my bushel of green beans from the Amish guy down the street - whooot! they are amazing - i think i'm going back to get another bushel later this week.

its nothing but bean snappin' and cannin' today, folks.

whoooot! happy wednesday

;-)

I think I finally found a variety of bean that I like and that likes my soil. Kentucky Wonder. Too bad I only have 1 plant :P

stupid bugs got most of mine - but i'm growing another round. i think i had some kentucky wonder also... hum...

Blue Lake pole beans will grow for me, there just aren't many beans per plant. Chinese red noodle beans get attacked by every bug on the front range. I guess they must be delicious but I will never know :P. The Kentucky Wonder is putting out lots of beans and growing well, plus the bugs didn't strip the plant. That's a winner for Colorado gardening.

I am on my second round of beans. I originally had the Blue lake Bush planted they fizzled out very quickly. I the middle of the bed I had a pole bean come up. It is over 6 ft tall now and still producing. I was amazed. I am pretty sure it was one of the seeds I bought form Baker Creek. I will have to let you know. Just amazing.

You better get snappin!! ;)

Congrats on the beans! Ohhh, I LOVE Kentucky Wonders. That's all I will grow here. They are strong, and long producing. They can up great too!!

There is also a pole variety called 'Kentucky-Blue' it's a cross of the two, and you can save the seeds from it....I've done it for years and they are great. I had my first picking last night for supper & stuck some in the freezer. They are tender and flavorful. They are a bit slow to put on, but once they do...look out!

Here is a pic from 2 years ago (the only one I have & camera is currently out of order :/ )

holy COW, Old F! thats amazing!!!! we need to hook you up with Java's huge sunflowers to contain all that beany goodness!

so my bean victory is nearly completely. the canner is cooling and i'll do another round tonite after chores. and the beans were so amazing i sent TBM back to tell them we want another bushel on friday! wow!

and then i scored some regular mouthed lids at kroger for $1.37 each. whoot!

and THEN i went to a local stand and they are selling canning tomatoes for $8/box. i'm not sure what they mean by "canning tomatoes"... or how big the box is... but for $8 i'm willing to take a gamble. i'm guessing they are seconds which is just fine for pizza sauce. my maters are doing well - but they are slow to ripen since we were so late in planting.

so all good news here.

*runs off all hopped up on new coffee snack *
