On average, what do you spend on feed every month?

Chickens (1 roo/15 hens)
FlockRaiser $12.45/50# bag
Winter - 1 bag lasts a little over a month
Summer - 1 bag lasts 2 to 2 1/2 month
:gig :lau :gig :lau :gig :lau :gig :lau :gig

I WISH!

I'm going through about 2 bags or more of flock raiser per week!

That's $111.60 per month on just flock raiser here!
For The Ladies and Sam? or for all your flocks (plus those greedy ducks of yours :lau)??

That's for everybody. I am not sure what it would be for The Ladies and Sam, as they're in line with everyone else for the feeders. I do go through less in the fall when I'm able to free range everyone.

The ducks no longer get flock raiser. They are on gamebird pellets mixed with cracked corn.

Probably wouldn't be that much flock raiser, either, if I wasn't feeding chicks from January until October.

The difference between 15 chickens and your many flocks. :D

Let's face it, for you chickens are like heroin! You are mainlining, girl! :lau

Quick, get that girl into rehab!!! :lau

Back away from the chicks and no one will get hurt!!!

hey BBH
I farm for income
we have over 120 hogs
I am down to 30 something goats
cattle are up to about 20 now
chickens are 250 layers

we grow our own hay and we supp. with corn stalks and molasses canes when we make molasses. so alot of stuff we feed from the farm.

Honestly I had all numbers figured at one time.

We make great money on processing and selling the sausage and chops.

good money on eggs/sell for $3.75 dozen and do just over 100 dozen per week.

if you can grow your own hay and buy feed by the ton then you can save so much money which is needed for a biz.

I know there is great profit. the times I wrote down every cost and time and all and it turned out well in my favor. but alot of work as we all know when it comes to animals! :)

Rehab?? Who needs rehab? Someone on here?

Oh not me! I can stop anytime I want to!

Did I tell ya'll that Becca found some NHR pullets on CL today?! :hide

Cracked corn is crack! We had some fawn & white runner ducks that we got from someone who fed them nothing but cracked corn. I think it did some brain damage to them, they wig out all the time.

FarmerChick -- it is good to know you are making some profit. If I could buy food by the ton and not expect it to spoil, I could probably profitably sell eggs to. Right now I am looking at just selling them to get rid of them and not seeing a profit when penciling it out. :/

Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care! :lau (I'm not getting a thing done today...too close to Friday I think!)

FarmerChick, I knew that you farmed for a living, that is why I wanted to know how much you saved by spending. Does that make sense? :D
