Our traditional Christmas Breakfast

I'm not sure how the tradition started but we always had this cherry/peach candycane for breakfast on Christmas morning! What's your Christmas tradition?

Cherry Candycane

Dough:
2 C sour cream
2 pkg (2T) active dry yeast
1/2 C warm (105 - 115*) water
1/4 C buttered (softened)
1/2 C sugar
2 tsp salt
2 eggs
6 C flour (more or less)

Filling: (mix together)
1 can peaches (drained)
1 can cherry pie filling

Heat sour cream over low heat until lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in the warm water, then stir in sour cream, butter, sugar, salt, eggs and 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Add remaining flour until nice bread dough forms. Turn onto well-floured board & knead for 10 minutes or put in mixer with dough hook. Let rise in warm place until doubled. Heat oven to 375*. Punch dough down and divide into 3 parts. Roll each into a 15" by 6" rectangle. Place on greased baking sheet. With scissors, make 2" slits along the long sides about 1/2" apart. Fill center with filling. Braid strips together overtop of the filling. Stretch to 22" long and curve into candy cane shape.

Bake 15-20 min or until goldne brown. Brush with butter and drizzle with thin icing. Garnish with cherry halves.
 
Preface by saying, if its in the stocking, you don't have to wait to open it. Then breakfast is always cinnamon rolls and pigs-in-the-blanket. Stick a candle in one of the cinnamon rolls and sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus. Then eat breakfast NOT at the table, and it's okay to still be opening stocking stuff. Once breakfast is done (but not cleared up :lol: dishes just in kitchen), THEN we open presents under the tree, one at a time, so everybody gets to see what everybody got :) And it makes it take longer since there's not that many presents under that tree ;)
 
Love the candle and birthday song idea! I just have to say though... I've never met anyone who eats pigs-in-a-blanket for breakfast! I think that's one of the fun things about Christmas traditions though!

Ditto.....no biscuits for me this yr though. That's okay, I can live with eggs and bacon....and sausage....well, anything pork really. :D

Well not everyday. But most days!! Although some Christmases we do have sticky buns but Im more of a gravy person.
 
My holiday tradition is listening to relatives and family bicker over gifts and money.
 
Blackbird, :hugs and a pair of super duper invisible supersonic earplugs to block the noise...
 
I'm sorry, I shouldn't be negative.
As far as foodstuffs, we always have lefse which is a traditional Norwegian flatbread made from potatoes. I like mine with peanut butter and honey. A layer of butter sprinkled with sugar is the most common though.

My mom works in the town dubbed as the lefse capital of the world (which is a big feat for a small town). Many of the residents at the nursing home she works at still make it themselves. I would love to learn how!
