Thanks guys. I know they are "just ducks" but still :hit I am just a big marshmallow.

Everyone else was fine this morning despite it being only 44 last night. Mom makes a good comforter apparently :D

On Thursday Zoe and Bert go to their new home here . I got some purple cherokee tomato plants from them last week and the 2 ducklings are my payment. I am thrilled that they actually wanted a drake AND are 2 minutes from my house :D

Some more ducky cuteness to help you through your day...

That's Prairie Dawn with the lettuce. She DID NOT let the much bigger ducks steal it from her. She is a spunky thing and takes no crap from her older siblings :gig

Just lost Zoe. I went out to get them veggies and she wasn't moving. Brought her inside but she was obviously not doing well. I wrapped her in a scarf and put her under a lamp. After about 15 minutes she seized and died.

I just disinfected all of the food and water bowls. Now I am off to get antibiotics from the Big R.

Not sure what the problem is but in the past I have lost ducklings when it is cold and wet. Of course it has been raining and hailing and last night was VERY cold.

I created a "yard" of sorts for the ducks so they could get some direct sunshine. I put dry straw down everywhere even though I just changed it all Saturday. So far everyone is OK, but I will be a wreck for a while. The weather is finally on my side though.

So for so good.

I tried to give the babies some treats but mom is a big hog :p

A few did manage to get a few pieces of duckweed before mom snarfed them all up. The more I watch Prairie Dawn the more I am sure she is from one of Shelley's eggs. Too smart for her own good and alpha from the get go.

I may regret it, but I am keeping her! I am also keeping Oscar/Abby. No clue if I am dealing with a boy or girl yet. I will know for sure soon enough.

Bert and Betty Lou will go to the farm on Thursday if everyone remains healthy. After talking with some BYC buddies who raise Welsh Harlequins the consensus is the weather was the problem more than anything. If it was a disease I should have seen other symptoms like nasal discharge or labored breathing.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent losses. It is not easy to part ways with a cute little duckling. :( I hope this is the end of whatever it was.

By the way, I would totally be keeping Prairie Dawn too! :D
