Pink Fox: its Raining...IN MY HOUSE! :/

DAMNIT ALL!
just whent out to my car...and guess whos battery is dead. stupid me lef tthe tom tom plugged in and its aparently draine dmy car dry over the past few days of inactivness.

going to see if E can come gimme a jump, if not ill be waiting on AAA...*sigh*
im an idiot
 
got her started and he rn fine so definatly just me being silly and allwin tom tom to nom the battery...
picked up the new porkers!
they were upset in the car for the first 15 ins then slept the rest of the wy, got em home and set upin the kitchen for now with the small crate a playpen a litterbox and a heatlamp...
they are currently shredding the newspaper and grunting/squeeking.
i tried ot get em to eat from a dish and a bottle when we got home, no dice, tried again about 45 mins ago and will try aain at 8...eventually hunger will overcome confusion/fear and theyll get the idea
nd yes, i said "them" i brought home 2 little gilts! and neither were the one i origionally whent fr who tunred out to be a boar :/ thats ok though because in person his head and hips were too narrow, and the 2 girls i brought home are nice looking girls, though 1 is the runt shes got nice balance and should catch up quickly now shes not going to be fghting 12 other piglets for lunch.
the other girl has GREAT ear set, its usually 2-3 weks befoe those ears start to droop forward but hers are already starting.

anywho...got them home and am amazed, they are USING the itterbox...yup yo herd me right, these piggies have never even seen the inside of a house let alone a box and yet imeiatly they came out of the crate acoss the ft between the crate and the box and whent pee and poop...
they are also whie i woudlnt say "sweet" like a dog or cat, they do NOT like to be picked up/restrained in any way lol) they do however love to climb in my lap when i sit with them...

Dozer is none to sure what to mke of the situation and doesnt seem to know if he should love the or eat them.
while its just them in the pen hes crying and wagging but if i sit in there and they climb in my lap he gets very upset...i guess he just doesnt want to share his human food lady!
but being his particular mix was origionally bred to serve the uty of a hog dog, and the pigs naturla instincts when it comes to preators they will NEVER interact unsupervised, EVER.
ive known pigs kill and eat coyotes...and of course...visa versa...

anywho.
these 2 girls are SMART and already little tanks considering hwo small they arehaving to get creative with the playpen as there figuring out how to push things aside to get it open with the way its currently set up so im going to be changing it around beore bed lol.

they are also not "quiet" right now unless they are in my lap. and while thats cute right now...it wont be when they are 500lbs so snuggletimes will be allowed but theyll also not be an everytime your upset" kind of thing

And here I was hoping for something to plant in the ground to grow bacon. Darn! :lol:
 
Yeah, but you have to do more than water them and put a ton of mulch around them to get the to grow. :D
 
Pigs are pretty easy though if you can keep them contained. Mine was an escape artist, and sttrong as an ox...he kept knocking the boards out of the barn wall and squeezing his humongous butt out :/
 
i was gonna say actully yeah water well and mulch with veggie/garden scraps and a bacon tree shall grow.
pigs CAN be hard on fences, they seem to respect electric better but it has to be t nose height (which means eeping the ground under the lines clear as they need to be 6-8" above ground level to keep pigs in but generally 2 lines will do)
they are INCREDIBLY strong and can lift bolders so fences on their own dont do much good, those funny little noses are increidbly strong and they use em like shovels crossed with crowbars lol.

the nice thing about heritidge breeds liek the oldspot is they tend to be less damaging to pasture, calmer/sweeter temperments and because they grow slower there actualy not difficult to "mulch" lol. right now they should be drinking about 1/6th a cup of milk every 4 hours or so...so theyllbe much lighter on themilk bill than even my nigi goat boy was lol.
and as adults this preed in particular was bred to survive on very little real human input, origioanlly they would have gotten little other than what they dug up, grass/soil and whatever veggie/fruit scraps, windfall fruit and whey that was leftover form the kitchen and orchard...

hence thier nickname orchard or cottage pig.
the ledgend goes that the old spots spots are acutaly bruises from falling apples as they grazed the orchards :)
