Punkins' world....SUNSHINE, seeds and no more drought!

Bless your heart, I have a love-hate relationship with cold weather. I love it when it gets cooler but my body hates it!

This morning was 32 and we had light frost. The sun is glorious and the air is crisp and cool. The high was around 62.

My dad and I finally got 2 of the 4 rows of sweet taters dug today. We have had so much rain that they stayed in the ground much longer than he wanted. We dug up some that will weigh in around 3 lbs.

So, guess what we had for supper? Yup, good ole' sweet taters with butter and brown sugar. Yummylicious! We had ham and boiled cabbage to go along with it. A perfect supper for Fall.

I made two more small batches of soap today. One is Peppermint Patty which has cocoa powder and peppermint oil in it and actually looks alot like a brownie. The other is Cinnamon Oatmeal.

I mowed the yard for probably the last time this year. Always sad for me, cause I like to mow. DH got the bushogging finished and scaped the gravel driveway. I also started washing blankets and let them dry outside.

More blanket washing, soap making and tater digging tomorrow.

I love sweet potatoes! Just had some roasted last night. Delish!

Your soaps sound wonderful too, great combinations! :thumbsup

So, I have been meaning to ask this question....what the heck is bushogging?

Oh Dace, thank you! That's the best laugh I've had all day. :gig

It's an attachment to the tractor that cuts down weeds and stuff in fields.

Kind of like a heavy duty finishing mower. This isn't ours exactly, but it will give you an idea. So, when DH uses the bushhog, we say he's been bushhogging. Our fields aren't hay fields, so we keep the weeds at bay with this.

:drool oooh... roasted sweet potatoes with butter and nutmeg....

We had some yesterday at lunch at the women's retreat. Just marvelous! :D

Ok now I am hungry for sweet potatoes. Yummy. I grew them once a couple years ago. I love the flowers and vines.
:)

I suppose I should catch up a little bit.

We've been getting a few things done around the house before bad weather sets in:

Sweet potatoes - dug (some eaten :P )
Yards - mowed
Fields - bushhogged
Pool - covered
Weeds - poisoned
Chickens in the tractor - moved to Hen Pen (although the 3 Amerucanas don't like for them to be in the run and still bully them)
Outside decks - picked up
Gravel drive - scraped (again) from heavy rain washing it away
Winter clothes - back in closets
Sheets, blankets & bedspreads - washed

Wednesday I was planning on going to my WCG (Church women's group). I moved something in the bottom of my pantry. That's when I discovered that a jug of cooking oil had somehow leaked. :sick What a mess!! I had to move everything out, clean the bottom and threw away two rugs. :rant That took a while, so I had to skip the group meeting. I will have to admit that the bottom of my pantry looks nicer. :D

Yesterday, I pulled out my bread machine (it was one of the things in the bottom of my pantry :/ ) I made a 1 1/2 lb loaf of white bread. Last night we had ham, cheese and fried egg sandwiches for supper (my eggs, my bread, not my pig or cheese  )

Oh, I forgot to tell ya'll that my 18 year old DS got a tattoo. :idunno
For 2 years he has said he was going to get one. I said it would be OK if it wasn't demeaning, ugly or disrespectful. It's about a 4" cross made of sword blade ends over his heart with diamond shapes in each corner that he designed. It's not something I don't think I would do, but I'm not him. It's OK with me. After all, what's done is done and he could do alot worse things than getting a tattoo, right?

Thanks for explaining bushhogging! Glad I gave you a giggle too :)

Kids and tatoos....well all I can say is he could have certainly done a lot worse! At least he was smart enough to put in in a place that is easily covered for a job interview or his daughter wedding. :thumbsup

I have an 18 yr old too. When her group of friends started turning 18 I have never seen such a rash of tattoos and piercings :barnie...they all knew that they could, so they did. For some reason my DD did not parttake, I am glad, but honestly was perplexed at the time. She is part rebel and part good girl....you never know what she will do!! :gig

Dace, putting it in a place easily hidden is one thing we told him to think about if (when) he gets another.

His BF had his last name tattooed on his forearm in Old English Script. It' looks good, but very hard to hide.

I have one on my back and one on my panty line in the back as well. I thought long and hard about my first one and hung a picture of it on my wall for a year before I got it to make sure I still liked it. Killed my mother, still does. Then when she saw the second one I thought they were going to kill me cause I got the first one in 94 and the second one in 2000. I guess they thought the moment had passed :P NOT. I would love to get something that incorporates my kid's names in it but I don't know where I would put it. No one knows I have them unless they see me in a bathing suit. At least he did put it in a place that is easily covered up.

Sounds like you've been really busy! I did the bed linen thing this week too, I hate washing comforters....blah.
