rodeogirl's journey to being self-sufficient

Many craft or fabric stores have free group lessons. These lessons are usually an hour, and well worth it to help the novice gain some self confidence. Of course, that may not be the case in Ireland. If so, you'll just have to come to the states for a visit!!!
I saw a sign up in the window of a fabric shop in the bigger town near me, offering sewing classes. I might go take them up on it some time...

An other common mistake that newbies can make: loading the thread into the bobbin case the wrong way. Look carefully at your instruction manual to see which direction it should go. In mine, the thread comes off the spool if you are holding it in front of your face in a clock wise direction.

Another mistake with the bobbin is not bring the thread through to the top of the casing. My friend made this mistake after she bought her machine and tryed to use it. I spent a good 2 hours pulling all the thread that was balled up from the bobbin.

My boyfriend bought me a body pillow a few months ago (I like to cuddle when I sleep and he dousent) it was nice and fluffy when we bought it. Not so much now. Because pregnancy pillows are so pricy we bought some fiber fill to stuff it. I took out the stitch at the end to find out that they just rolled a flat batting into the shape of the pillow. Which actually explains why it went flat so fast.

I hate lumpy pillows so I separated the layers in the middle so I could stuff it.

We then had fun stuffing it back into the casing

All stufft and fluffy waiting to be sewn shut

I just ended up closing the side with a very sloppy blanket stitch. I also just use normal thread so I fold in half twice to be stronger

All stuffed and stitched up. Little man for size and because he refused to move
