I built a cat proof sandbox for my granddaughters. I'm going to tack some 1/4" square mesh to the bottom to make it snake proof also. They should enjoy it.

Inside measures 4 foot square and 1 foot deep.

Seat backs lean back 15 degrees.

I like that cat proof sand box. Nothing worse than a handful of cat crap. :tongue:rant

We have a lot of red cedar on our place. I love the smell of it.

Do you have any that's big enough to take to the sawmill? Both Western and Eastern Red Cedar are great for outdoor use. The heartwood is rot resistant and it's a natural insect repellent also. I also like the smell of eastern red cedar, it's all fun and games until you get sawdust in your eye though - It burns like hell.

I like to mix a little bit of eastern red cedar sawdust into chicken & turkey deep bedding. I seems to work well for keeping ticks, fleas, chiggers, turkey mites & flies away.

That is way cool!

I like it, I also think it's pretty cool. My wife seen this picture somewhere on the internet and asked me to make it but instead of 4'x6' she asked for a 4'x4'.

I also changed a few things with the seat. I didn't like the dividers or that the back was at 90 degrees with the seat, so I made it tilt back 15 degrees. I think the way I made the seat one board wide or 6" it creates a little more play area also. Instead of a seat 11" or two boards wide. Anyways it was a fun project - I enjoyed building it from standing tree to sand box :)

Nice! although, going by memory, I don't think the seats will get that much use... unless a parent is involved. I don't think my kids ever sat on anything but the floor unless forced, until they were in their teens. Even then, they were more likely to sit upside down or backwards.

Only one suggestion - and you may have already thought about it....some type of spacers so little fingers don't get squashed if they are opening or closing it.

It really is cool and I know they're gonna love it!

We have some big ones, but they won't be cut! We did cut a few, putting in the fence, but used them for fence posts.

I'm not planning on moving......but if I ever do, I want to make a floor of cedar. Not planks, but cross cut pieces of large and small diameter limbs. Then pour resin over all of it to make a real special floor. I laid the planks in our house, sanded, white washed and polyurethaned the floors. Came out pretty.
