SheriM - Too Stubborn to Stop Dreamin' - SURPRISE!!!

The little gal is doing great. She's taking a bottle now and is up and around. Oh, and we've named her now. Everybody, meet Mary.

Sheri, that has got to be one of the cutest things I have ever seen! I just love the diaper!!! Mary is definitely pretty snug there in the house with you, she seems to have made herself at home. How is her mama doing? Are the pups okay?

The diaper isn't working out as well as I'd hoped. I don't have children, so I've never bought diapers before. I had no idea what size to buy and got ones that are too small. I can just barely get them on her now and with the way baby goats grow, within a week, there will be no way to make 'em fit. Oh well, live and learn...and then get Luvs! :)

The momma goat is missing the baby, but she'll get over it quickly. If the weather was warmer, the baby would be able to live with her and I'd take a bottle out to her, but it's just too cold.

Thankfully, the cold doesn't seem to be causing too much problem for the pups. Both litters are doing great now. The older litter is starting to move around a lot so I'll have to create a better barrier in their stall, but it's so much fun to watch them. :D
 
Awww, Mary is adorable!! You all need to quit showing pics of goats....or I will end up with some here!! :lol: We are just now getting the materials for the pasture for sheep. If I told DH I wanted goats too...I think he would drop over! LOL
 
Mary the goat is doing great today. I was away all day and she apparently spent the day sleeping at DH's feet. Every time she woke up and squawked, he fed her, so she ended up getting a bottle every two hours. Then I got home and insisted on going back to the 4 hour schedule I normally use for baby goats. So I'm the big meany now. :) She's also decided that after today, it's no fun to be by herself. She wants to be lying at our feet and if I get up and leave the room, she cries till I come back! I love DH for taking such good care of her all day, but he's created a monster! :D
 
Wouldn't you know it, the dam has come into milk finally. I'll take the kid out to her mom today and see how it goes, but she's been in the house for three days now, so I'm not sure the dam will take her back and even if she will, it's still pretty cold out and the kid's adapted to indoor temperatures now.
 
Okay, this is getting patently ridiculous!! This has been one huge case of mass confusion around here. Yesterday, while feeding the does their pellets, I saw a goopy tail and big udder and assumed it was the kid's mother. Well, I was right, but I was also wrong. It was NOT the doe who had claimed the baby and was protecting it so defensively when I first found it. This is a totally different doe, named Tala. Tala walked away from her babies last year, too, so I guess what happened was that Tala kidded, walked away and Spirit, being the great mother she is, stepped in. She was perfectly willing to raise the kid, but of course, couldn't feed it.

One of the problems with raising Boer Goats is they all look alike from the back end!

So, the end result here is, I have a bottle baby and Tala is on the sales list. I won't keep a doe who walks away two years in a row. I will explain to any potential buyer what my experience with her has been and price her accordingly. If there are no takers, she goes on the meat truck. Hate to do it, since she's such a nice doe, but if she can't raise babies, she doesn't belong in my herd.

Anybody want a pet doe real cheap? :)
