Lately the news has been showing bare shelves like the whole country is running out of food. Then the segment ends with a cheerful admonition not to hoard. What an oxymoron. First scare people to death, then tell them not to stick up.

People who garden and or raise meat practice stocking up as a matter of fact. You preserve the food for later consumption. Squash isn’t going to flourish in sub freezing temperatures. For some silly reason vegetables just don’t grow well under those circumstances. Duh.

Ive seen bare or sparse shelves here. On one hand, it makes you wonder if all the doomsday sayers are right, or it is just fear porn. Either way, its best to have extra just in case.

My mom bought Tang. I thought it was fantastic stuff. I was a kid, didn’t know any better!

if you really want an eye-opener look into what happens to concentrated orange juice.

we've never really been into buying orange juice so it wasn't a big bother to me, but we do buy oranges and tangerines at times and we'll still keep doing that when they're available. i also like to use limes for making limeaide once in a while for something different. it helps in the winter to keep up my vitamin C level since i know i don't get enough of it and i also would rather have it from food instead of from supplements if i can get it.

it goes right along with the other fear-mongering a lot of the popular news has been doing for years. i rarely watch it anyways and just catch most of it on the fly when scanning the headlines. gotta take it all with large grains of salt...

so true! I was in walmart yesterday. Yogurt looked a little thin but not particularly unusual for mid-day on a Monday. Organic/grassfed milk has been in short supply since Thanksgiving, but that's expected. Demand is up and dairy production dips in winter. I was able to get the last two cartons of grassfed milk at Walmart. Score! I haven't been able to find it at walmart since November. Other stores are well-stocked. Walmart just sells so much volume every day that it shows up when a truck is delayed or people panic-buy an item.

I've been surprised how minor shortages have been here. Still able to get items from Wish and Aliexpress - I didn't expect that to continue
