Final score - me three and Birds three.
I took down the bird netting today and cleaned out the remaining blueberries- they were good.
Over the winter, I'll have to devise a cage large eough to cover all the shrub and allow me to get into it to pick. Removing the netting was too difficult to do it all the time.
I'm thinking of putting in some tall t-posts around the edge and a couple in the middle. Then running the netting around the perimeter and draping it ove the center posts like a tent.
I wish I had understood that it was going to be this difficult when I planted- I would not have used lovely, curving redwood roots to make raised beds for them. Makes it hard to get all the places the birds went through.
But on the plus side, the California quail couple manage to raise 12 babies to adulthood this year- partially on my blueberries.
And no, I will not shoot quail to dinner- they are much too cute (and I believe not legal to shoot.)
