SSDreamin Blessings and curses

I would have hung up he phone. Some people are so rude. What's going to be worth more if the crap does hit the fan soon, a lump of gold, or a dozen edible chickens who lay edible eggs and have offspring who do the same? Sheesh.

Anyway I think you're cool, so cool in fact, that I named you after me :lau :gig

Yup, it is, especially from him, he's my baby brother :P Everybody in my family thinks my eggs are nasty, because they're brown  Clueless, clueless people, Ugh!

Mine are even worse, mine are green! I've had people ask me if they're safe to eat and ask what's wrong w/them?

And yeah, I may have hung up on him. I would have probably told him that I didn't want to talk to him if he had that kind of attitude, and when he was ready to talk nice, I'd be willing to talk to him, then hung up the phone.

He is the last person in my family that I actually talk to (well, ok, I talk to my father twice a year) and he has always been the 'least jerky' towards me.

I am just floored that lately people feel they have a right to judge my endeavors! I am not trying to force my lifestyle on ANYBODY. If they ask me about it, I do tend to prattle on...and on, about it  It brings me contentment. If I enjoy raising animals, growing a garden, canning and drying what I harvest, cooking from scratch and hanging my clothes out to dry in the sun; so what? How does it hurt them? I don't judge their consumer driven lifestyles, what gives them the right to judge mine?!!

I bet he'll be eating crow if TSHTF and you have stuff to eat, at least. He probably understands and agrees with you a lot more than he wanted to let on. He was probably down and so he had to attack your fortune by making it stupid, when in all actuality you have real things you can fall back on.

Maybe your family is among the many who believe that having money = happiness. Then they can't understand how you are so happy with things that don't look like money to them.
In our eyes, here on this forum, Our SS projects make us rich AND happy.

My brother is about the only one who "gets" me. He and I were cut from the same mold, but the rest of my family seems to have been skipped the "cool genes". A few days ago I was talking to dad on the phone and mentioned how I was making bread. He said "why? Isn't it more expensive to make your own?" I said well no, it's a bag of flour and this and that. He's like but it costs so much to buy all that when you can spend a dollar or two on a loaf of bread. I just explained that my little two dollar bag of flour will make MANY loaves of bread and now that $4 for 2lbs of yeast will make a TON of bread. Other than that, it wasn't a big deal. My mom though, ugh. When I had the ducks at her house, and when something came through and slaughtered all but one, she kept telling everyone how she can't wait for something to kill the last one and wished it had gotten the others a long time ago. When I got the new ducks, she kept telling George "you know they poop right?" Like, no, the man is 64 years old and hasn't figured out yet that ducks crap. Luckily, George is very on board with me. He makes enough money to go buy decent food, but he has NEVER said anything bad about any of my endeavors. The worst he said about them is when I said we were getting new laying hens and he said "that'll be more feed". Other than that, he's been very helpful and mostly just says "they're your birds, you do whatever you like with them". My brother keeps reminding me that once he gets his property ready that I have to help him with birds. He was asking about the incubator and after a good conversation he said "well, the heck with that, I'll just have you hatch them out when I need new ones" lol. He's also taking me hunting on his grounds to get venison this year. So, I have all the support that I need anyways. I wish everyone was so lucky!
