Just wondering what ya'll have to pay for straw, if anything, or do you cut your own?
We've been buying it from the local feedstore for $4 a bale. Well, today I decided to check around to see if we could get a better deal. The feedstore in the town next to us (actually it's 11 miles from us) sells theirs for $5.60 a bale! I was like, no way! Not when I am right now paying $4.
So DH calls one of the local farmers he knows. Asks him if he's willing to sell straw to us, and if so how much. He says $3 a bale!
So I have switched over. DH and Step dad ran up to his home and they came back with 12 bales, 10 for my mom and 2 for me (I only needed 2 for now). I told DH that for $1 more than what I was paying for 2 bales at the feedstore, I can get 3 bales from this local farmer!
And it's a LOCAL farmer! That makes me so happy! I don't think our local feedstores are getting their bales from local farmers. And the straw I got from this local farmer was thicker straw than what the feed store sold me! So, better quality, less money!
