I have a question for you to chew on. Are you ashamed of Jesus? Do you ALWAYS pray a blessing on the foood even in public? Do you talk with friends about him?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

No. Yes, and yes. We even pray over our food in non believers homes :hu the folks we have worked for do not always believe or even necessarily care for religion at all....but we always pray over our food, and other times during the day. It doesn't matter where I am..if I'm ashamed of Him, won't He be ashamed of me? I would be ashamed of NOT praying.

Exactly! I found a Sacred Harp song that says the same thing and it inspired me to ask............

I'm not Christian, however I keep my prayers quiet. Maybe its that I live in California, but the stigma that comes along with prayer in general, let alone any spoken thoughts is horrendous.

Maybe if I were in the south it would be more acceptable?

 That's funny! I can't imagine it being regional but who knows? How about you folks on the west coast? Do you pray in public? :P

I think people who would be ashamed to bow their heads in public would be ashamed to do that no matter where they lived.

It'd be more acceptable if folks would actually DO IT and not worry about what others thought ;) That goes for everywhere. We live in America with specific freedoms designated to religious beliefs and freedoms....other countries it would be more difficult, but not here. Exercise your rights, or lose them. :hu In America...we really truly have no excuse. Just my 2 cents.

We always say a blessing over our food before we eat. The Holy One becomes the topic of many conversations with friends and non believers. More from their questions than us bringing up the topic.

That's because you're Jewish. :lau JK! We go through the same things with some of our friends. We are friendly with a lot of non believers and believers and believers that disagree with our beliefs  I wouldn't hesitate to bow my head in front of any of them. When your countenance speaks for you, folks ask questions ;)

I think it is just more accepted regionally. Even some of the schools here are Christian even though they are regular public schools. In Louisiana at the kids school there was a church right beside it that the kids could go to to bible study after school. Here in AR at their schoold they sang Christian songs at Christmas time. Unfortunately that principle is now retired and I doubt the new one would be brave enough to do that. BTW the kids are going to start Christian homeschooling next month.
