Thanks for all the ideas and feedback. Please know that we don't ignore ideas. We take them all into consideration and try to weigh the pros and cons... many of which are very hard to quantify, and maybe impossible to understand if you can't see what's going on in the background.

We made the decision early with BYC that it couldn't be an all things to all people forum. We got requests all the time to create a gardening section, but we knew that it would take on a life of its own, so we created TEG. We also got requests for a goat forum, horse website, cow forum, etc. etc. etc. so we created BYH.

While the decision has been made not to create more duplicate sections on the sister sites, there may or may not be a time when it is appropriate... but the staff feel that now is not the time.

We also understand that each community will have its own personality... forums are like people, they start off tiny and try to find their way. They go through some growing pains, and hopefully find their stride. Even then they will continue to change and develop, growing all along the way. :)

We're open to the discussion of ideas and try not to shoot any down. Again, please remember that just because we may not agree or make changes instantly doesn't mean we aren't listening, paying attention, or having discussion behind the scenes.

:thumbsup

So...how about the energy conservation category? It currently has only 20 topics in it after all this time. Not a real hot category and won't suffer much by having some livestock living in it.

How 'bout it? :D

When I joined SS about a year ago, I did not find it very user friendly because of the lack of livestock and gardening section. Not a whole lot of people have solar or wind or hydro power but most have livestock and tend a garden.

Then go, via one click, to The Easy Garden, linked at the bottom of every page. I understand the issues with BYH, and we're working on them, but that's where livestock discussions belong. There's a lovely community over on TEG just waiting for your input - many who post here are there, too.

Let's make sure we keep the comments friendly and helpful, I'd hate to have to close this discussion. If peeps have problems with other's comments, report them or take it to PM, but keep them off the forum.

Regarding the organization: It isn't a matter of "space" or "number of categories" and exchanging one for another. There many many other considerations that we, as organizing staff, need to keep in mind for the community.

Your going to get the most answers if you go to the site that is more specialized for the topic with your questions. Yes that means you will get answers that you don't want (don't suit your goals or situation) if you have left your question too broad, and maybe you will get those answers anyway, but it's still all learning. Having the questions here and there cuts the learning for all considerably. For example for those that think everything has to go to the Vet, you and your questions being answered by those of us that don't think that way will teach them something, and maybe some day they will see the light. :) For those that come down on you for your management style or shelter again please hit the report button. We want to deal with that stuff, we know it's out there but we don't (and can't) read every thread. So don't reply, ignore them and move on with the replies that suit you but do hit the report button on their post. Thanks in advance for your time on that, we want all sites to be comfortable for all.
