we did ok here but other people are without power today and there might have been a few tornadoes (not verified yet). i checked how things looked last night right before going to sleep and the storms looked to have lost a lot of their worst by the time they got over to where we're at. i unplugged things and turned off the AC to prevent problems or damage from the lightning or the power going on and off and went to sleep. woke up, no power issues and the roof did not leak so i'm glad for that but also sad for others who have to deal with this today and possibe damage or cleaning up.
since i won't be doing much gardening today i can do some black ant tracking, baiting and caulking gaps shut if i can find where they are using them to get into the walls of the house. not a very fun job to do and it takes patience and repeat efforts to make sure to keep them all sealed out... there's a lot of parts to these walls... but it has to be done or they can cause a lot of damage.
the local town did take some damage from the storms last night, big trees down and power out. i'm not sure if there was any tornadoes involved in that or not. i didn't even know there was that kind of damage until i signed on the check the weather radar for this early evening - i have some things outside drying in the sun and hoped they'd have another hour or two...
we did have some damage from the storms but we didn't notice it until yesterday when Mom said that one of the stained glass panes on the lighthouse was shattered.
without having the ladder up yet and taking a closer look i don't see any structural damage up there but i'll have to get up there and check it out. plus i will have to measure the space for a new piece of glass.
i remember putting that thing up there (it was heavy and awkwards to say the least, it having all that glass and the copper roof) and then also being up there a ways.
it will be much easier to do a single pane replacement than anything else, but i'm not sure when that will get done and in the meantime i'm not sure i want to put up plastic, but perhaps i have a piece of wood already that might fit.
besides getting the situation taken care of i'll also have to pick all that glass out of the rocks that surround the lighthouse... those rocks are not small. some of the bigger pieces of glass can be reused for something. yeah, like i need more projects!
it wasn't any fun getting all that glass picked out of those rocks, but i got it done, then set up the ladder to check out the lighthouse to make sure it was structurally sound before bothering to replace the glass.
all looks ok, was surprised there was no glass inside to clean up so maybe it fell out and shattered when it landed. cleaned up the inside and put a temporary cover of some cardboard to keep the rain out, it may not stay up there very long but it was all i could do and i don't have a cordless screwdriver and manual wasn't accomplishing anything so i had to reuse the four screws that are still up there to hold the cardboard.
