Walking this morning… Pictures of Ireland

A bit of history

Goats and horses ! But, that rock wall with the gap in it is the coolest thing ever! I love that pic!

Where you are seems so very, very set for SS ways -- at least from this side of the view. What is in the "village" close to you? What do you have available for local "shopping"?

I love the castles!

When visiting Italy several times, we were able to tour the countryside and the larger cities/towns. Their lifestyle was one in which the cities has tri-level, row type housing. Shops on first floor and family living top two. If the family had any rural housing, as the children married a section was added for their residence area. Most often, rural had small garden, chickens, goats -- as we do. All interesting. I loved visiting the "home based" businesses of small eateries, pottery ware, jewelry, etc. Loved visiting Pompei and walking up Mt Vesuvius. Visiting history is great!! The Greek Isles were another lesson into human past life......wow!

FEM, that is for climbing through the wall :) It's like a "hiker's" gate, that keeps animals in/out, but allows hikers access or exit, whichever is needed. Some stone walls have steps build in for climbing over too. I'll try to remember to take a pic next time I see one.

MH in this village we have the essentials, a pharmacy, three pubs, a lovely "craft" butchery, two grocery shops, a little misc store for school supplies and bed linen that only opens for about 2 hours a day and a very nice hardware store. And the farmer's co-op nearby.

There are some flats above the shops here and behind the shops too, many unoccupied now. Actually a lot of the houses here are sitting empty and buildings boarded up, but it's seen across Ireland. So many people left after the recession.

Sounds like some of the small towns/communities here in USA. Rural areas have these and it's basically minimal necessities shopping - right? That would sure make everyone more SS ! Ours are just further apart with BIG cities not too far away and between.

I would think work opportunities would be rather slim. How far does DH have to travel for work? Maybe you live in a "retirement" country -- not there, can't say.

I love the green and pastures...live fencing, etc. Geesh, I want to be part of the "group visit" !!

Our shops are fairly well stocked, but now and then I do need to go to a supermarket and I do my big shop there twice a month or so. The nearest bigger town with just about everything is only about 6 miles away and the city about 20 miles.

Work is a bit scarce here, yes… The ex and I split last year March. He decided to go back to S.A. shortly after and have been there since.

Oh you guys must come for a group visit! We can book the little castle just outside the village for accommodation ;)

Now that you explained it - it makes perfect sense. So cool!
