🤣I have dozens of those lids...even when I open like jelly, I use the plastic screw on ones. When I'm milking I use glass jars with those lids. Warm milk goes in freezer for half hr to fast chill. The temp change actually forms a nice "seal" with those lids.
Ditto!

when we were buying a lot of commercial jams in the 18oz jars those jars and lids worked fine for canning and sealing up for several years of reuses - i just made sure they were cleaned well and the lids/seals were uniform (no dents in the lids and no strange stuff going on with the sealing compound).

i did not put things in them that were expensive to make but in the end it didn't matter as i didn't have any seals fail or storage problems.

Yeah, i get a better seal rate with used lids. I need to get in the habit of inspecting the new lids the same way.

Lids from WB canned jelly/jam/fruit, seal but don't get the "deep ditch" ring in the rubber. I've reused those for same. But meats in pressure canner for hr plus, nope, they're tossed. Deep depression in those.

i've not been having issues with any new lids in many years. oh, after the last shortage of Ball lids, there were a few boxes that had 13 lids in them and some were stuck together but there wa no issue with the sealing layer it was smooth as it should be.

years before that i'd had some generic lids that were not working but once i used regular lids things were fine again.
