The joys of canary grass. This is what happens when you don't mow it for 2 months. The fence is 6 foot.

Yes it likes water. We get enough precipitation that it will grow everywhere here. It doesn't actually like to be mowed like a lawn. I've pushed it back by mowing in some spots. This is just an awkward spot that requires the trimmer. I'm thinking of putting rubber mats down and finish putting that greenhouse together.

Well I do know it's nice in the winter months because you can use the clustered grass mats like stepping stones instead getting your boots stuck in the mud. I was just reading about it. I guess is a love it or not kind of grass.

Sowed rows of zucchini, straight neck yellow squash, butternut squash and cantaloupe. Did some more tieing up rows of tomatoes and some cultivating in-between rows. Changed oil in the wife's truck, no big project which was nice for a change.

We didn't get our daily rain Saturday or today. Wow I didn't know what to think about not getting our daily rain.

Yesterday it was hot and humid it hit 94, so I just rode around on the lawn mower, sweating. Had to also hose off air conditioner coils. They were pretty bad, now they will work more efficiently. It was a nice today though, partly cloudy 89, breezy and not much humidity.

watched a doe and buck grazing around by the pond. And also watched chickens and wild rabbits and chickens grazing. It was nice just to admire the animals for a change.

I think the wild rabbits eat some of the all flock pellets, I toss out for the chickens.

Son tells me I have a farmers tan, that's ok by me, as long as it's not a sun burn.

Nice to see an old Massey with a disc mower in the 10 acres, cutting hay. First cutting of the season. He asked if he could cut it, I said absolutely and so I showed him the ditch, which is deep. Then we made a 1/3 deal on hay rounds. His disc mower is gliding through the field like butter. Much better than the other 2 guys last year, with their sickle mowers, who had to give up.

I posted one of the garden area before. Tomatoes are doing ok. As are the peppers.

Cucumbers don't look like they will make it. They didn't do well with weather turning cooler and the rain.

Beans are coming up.

I need to weed again. This is what happens if you don't weed in a few days. Rain tapering off tomorrow.

Its prime gardening time for me right now. Everything is green and its lovely and cool in the garden. I took the hedges in 1-2 foot which was a big job. Some bulbs are flowering and the rest coming up. They dont seem to rot with mulch around them as I had worried about. The mulch has made weeding a breeze, the stuff that does come up is only loosely rooted.

I am considering putting in "real" grass for summer... But concerned about it strangling the hedges or other seasonal plants. I just love the green ground cover, (even though its mostly whipper snipped weeds!) And dread the summer sand returning.
