By the way, sweet potatoes you guys are talking about are not yams, right?

right, most sweet potatoes sold in the states are not yams - unless specificly stated i'd assume sweet potatoes over yams. i don't even know if i've ever eaten a yam - i don't think so.

in the far south perhaps this is different, but i've not spent much time in the far south to know. :)

Yams are hard to find in any store in the US. Usually only at asian groceries. Sweet potatoes are constantly mislabeled as yams in most grocery stores.

There are different types of sweet potato as well. Some are sweeter and moister than others that are mostly just starchy.

Hello everyone! Yesterday I finished the tomatoes halves and what I gathered today gave it to the mechanic that had called to check why furnace was not coming on. 480 Washington's later, noticed a plant growing in the seeders that I gave up on. I put 9 seeds of pumpkin [PR] and nothing so I gave up and stop watering it. Went to Indiana and back and today I found this. So put it in a bigger pot and sat it by kitchen window. I have no clue what to do with it. Cannot put on pot inside nor put it outside. Any advise?

Another question, so done with gardening. Do I pull the plants and put them in the compost mount in the back or should I bury them on their spot and add egg shells, coffee grounds, and some duck manure and cover with straw until next spring?

Oh by the way, I have no clue about compost. Been throwing stuff in a mount in the back for 2 yrs. ( chicken manure with woodchips, kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, yard clippings and small branches) But now the chickens finally found it and they have been scratching in it. They uncovered a tomato plant which has 5 tomatoes in it. Now what?

most of those are topics worth a long reply. guess who's out of gas? :)

can you search TEG for those and do some reading? i know a lot has been written there already and i'm not likely to get back here much for a few days...

the one short bit i can answer more quickly is that the squash plant isn't too likely to bear anything in time before the light and heat go away for the season. you can always eat the fresh leaves and if it flowers (it may not) or feed the greens to the birdies.

same here, i could eat squish or sweet taters every day. i could eat a whole bag of sweet potato chips much more often than i should. we just finished a large bag of them last week and i already miss them. today i had to have regular ruffled sour cream and cheddar potato chips and while i enjoyed them i really would have liked the sweet potato ones more. spoiled ain't i? :) i know it. is that worse? don't tell me. i'm also opinionated and have no sense of humor at all. especially when i'm hongry! :) all in fun. i am in a funny mood tonight... i hope you can bear with me in these troubled times...

My wife says "hangry" there's long ã in that hangry. Ain't spell check is so much fun. 😒

Pulling up t-posts and winding up baling twine. When all of a sudden "There's more sweet potatoes in this row." Humm... 🤔 three of us dig the row, two adults and a energetic young'in. I felt like we did a good job, but... Ok. I grabbed the pitch fork and got to digging. How did we miss these? it's a mystery to me.

Dug, big medium and small. Small ones I'll put in a box until I'll try and slip them late winter, to plant next spring. The others we'll eat.

I told my wife, she said "great that's all we need, is more sweet potatoes", I just laughed and said well we got neighbors.
