weed wacked for an hour (that's plenty enough of that for me and i'm glad the battery pack doesn't last longer). Mom decided to complain that she didn't like to do it even if it was possible for her to do it after all. so there ya go. not surprised by this "turn" of events, but now i get to deal with all this extra work on top of the extra i'm already doing? um, nope i'm not "trimming" every time i mow. once every three or four mows maybe... i hate lawns...

now though, i can use it to weed some thistles instead of mowing large areas so to have a spot weeding device might make some things easier and faster. am i actually gaining any time though? no. there's almost two acres here - i can knock back brush and weeds as much as i want - i don't want to or i'd already have been doing it... so there ya go.

p.s. love you Mom!

after the aforementioned trimming i got out and finished weeding the garden i'd like to plant with beans (late, but we'll do it anyways as they'll help keep some weeds down and provide some N and perhaps a crop of fresh beans for eating even if none get to dry bean stage before the frost takes them out). last year the later planted beans were the best crop i'd seen of them in a long time - but we did have a late fall frost - a few weeks made a lot of difference.

after the weeding was done (it's not really done but i was done :) ) i transplanted some more creeping thyme along the edge and got it watered in. glad to say it also rained a bit later on to help out.

more weeding today but i'm going to start gardening by picking some peas and pea pods. i'm really good at the planting and weeding (ok sort of ok) parts of gardening but some times i just don't have left-over energy for harvesting so i need to do it before i do anything else and when it is cooler it also helps a lot.

and there are some Beaver Dam peppers on the plants. :) :) :)

There hasn’t been much to do lately other than chase off the chickens and propagate more tomatoes. I did make a nice big compost bin though! I’m very happy with how it turned out. And in my flower/randomness bed the first corn poppy bloomed!

weeded the small onion patch and then it was rain coming plus had to come in to check on if the roofing guy was going to come over and see if he could find the leak (we had a real heavy rain last week and they were all on vacation and busy early this week so today was the day if we could get him here at all.

it worked out ok, the rains finished up and they arrived). there were a few other minor things that needed some looking at and fixing and i hope now we're set for a while.

he was also nice enough to move the bricks down that i'd used last winter to hold down the plastic i'd put up after the leaks. the people who came to caulk last winter just stacked them up on top of the chimney and they were ok up there, but they didn't belong up there - glad to have that taken care of.

the funny thing is that my brother works in the same building as the roofing company (our family business used to own the warehouse and office so now my brother rents an office and some space in the warehouse for his materials) so when the roofing guy arrived he said my brother said hello and that he had to help my brother find his keys or he wouldn't have been able to leave... so now i get to razz my bro a bit. :)
