You know it's funny = we've had open carry here for awhile now and I've NEVER seen a civilian carrying. We don't advertise down here in these parts, lol!

Lol I don't either. But his .45 doesn't fit in his pants pocket, lol. So unless he's always wearing long shirts, it just happens sometimes. I've really realized lately my .40 is too heavy to carry around in a purse all the time (I have neck and migraine issues)... Might have to get a second...

But I digress...

I don't have a bugout bag. We're in the woods, have a good community and figure we would try to be of help to our neighbors. There's a couple that would probably get booted out, but most everyone around here is on the same page or at least close to it.

That's where we stand too...nowhere we'd rather be than in the place people would be coming TO, in order to be of help to family and neighbors. We have slowly implemented changes here, and still are, to insure that, if the grid fails, we still have water from our well(will be installing a deep well hand pump this year) and adequate waste elimination abilities in place, hence the outhouse redo this year to make it bigger, sturdier and more user friendly for all ages.

Having clean and plentiful water, heat and safe waste removal in such times is major. When we did the wood stove redo a couple of years back, we also implemented a flat surface on top so we can cook there if need be, while we also maintain a full propane tank for our regular cooking range that should last for good long while...cooking all year barely puts a dent in it.

Other than those things, our entire place is a fully loaded bug out bag of sorts and that's just necessary things kept on hand when one lives in the country and 20 mi. from the closest markets and hospitals.

20 miles... I hear that were about the same distance. It sounds like you've thought trough "what if SHTF" real well and have given me several ideas - Thank You.

I have a gun safe. It's full. We have plans, if we ever couldn't stay here, to go to a place where we won't need much. Our friends have the ability to basically shut down their section of town.... Yay heavy equipment. And between the group of us we have many, many weapons to defend ourselves. So, I don't have one either. It is good to see what you have. I don't expect, being where I am, that I would ever not have notice for needing to leave.

Just one??? o_O

I'm not going anywhere! We're too old, lol.

On the other hand - Because DH is diabetic and drives a lot in his job I make him carry a 'survival' bag in his car. He keeps snacks and water (yuck on water that's been in a hot car - but better than nothing if you need it) and a few necessities like a flashlight, compass, walking shoes/socks and his trusty swiss army knife. He's also armed.

Ya'd think they wouldn't want to come and try to survive our summers either, lol. But, I'm sure we'd be right in the path...

To a southerner some snow sounds really good right about now!

Might be a bit to much to ask but also might start a interesting conversation.

I inventoried my Bugout Bag which stays in the back seat of my pickup. My 4 person tent and both my wife's and my, insulated hiking boots, 0 degree sleeping bags are by the front door. My wife also has a stocked Bugout Bag but more with "girly" things...

The idea is if SHTF and we had to Bugout we would like to carry as little as possible to be able to survive in the woods for 5 days while we set up camp and worked on a constant food supply. We already know exactly in the woods where we are going. It has a good creek and springs for water. Is on top of a high hill with a good view in most all directions.

Tell me what you think I'm missing or what I really don't need. And what's in your Bugout Bag?
