Processed foods are nightmare, there's no nice way to say it. When I started deeply learning this stuff, I was very angry, angry at the system that allowed things to get this bad. Angry that I was duped and lied to. Angry that my health was destroyed while I trusted that "they" wouldn't let something be sold that was so bad for us.

It's just not true. We are the only keepers of our own health. And cooking from scratch is the only way to get healthy and stay healthy. And if that isn't hard enough in today's world, we also need to be very picky about how our food is raised. This is what started me on the journey to self-sufficiency. This is why I got my first chickens and dairy goat, and why my gardening went from hobby level to deadly serious.

The best homemade nutritional drink that you can make is to make a great batch of soup and if you must have a liquid in the morning, simply blend it. It needs to be meat-based, homemade bone broth, lovely herbs and savory vegetables to flavor it, and lots of high fiber low glycemic vegetables and no carbs. It should also have plenty of fat in it.

If you want a cold drink and don't want cold soup, you need a really good blender. For one large shake, use one carrot, a handful of frozen blanched greens, (raw is not always best), a handful of frozen berries, a good shake of a good salt, some high fat milk but preferably yogurt or kefir. Use a little liquid Stevia if you need it to be sweeter. I use clean eggs from my flock only. Not purchased eggs. I use them raw. Raw yokes are much easier to digest, so I put 4-6 raw yokes. You need a blender that will pulverise a carrot. I can have difficulty eating when it is extremely hot outside. This is my go to lunch.

Well you can forget those RAW EGGS -- cannot do that. NOPE. Fresh butter, scrambled egg, onion, spinach/kale, cook and eat. Gags on raw egg, even undercooked & runny -- no way. Yes, I use own chickens fresh eggs.

I could live with my fresh goat milk, a garden and a few hens. Can't do "loose" eggs.

Most mornings I have leftovers from dinner. Soups are very nice at breakfast !

I think it is... I used to take it, but it's kinda spendy so I started letting him have it. Think that's about to change - I deserve some too! :)

Would LOVE to know more. We are in the low carb camp with DH's diabetes. But, I tend have a tendency to 'splurge' on carbs when I'm not with him. I know I shouldn't and I'm carrying the extra pounds to prove it.

I'd love to hear you expand on the subject of salt. We don't do 'table' salt - we usually do the Himalayan Pink Salt. But, salt can be used to preserve things too - what salt would you use in that situation?

I'm not a fan of pickles, but I saw a red pickled pepper recipe I want to try. I am trying to grow sunflower seeds this year and pumpkin keeps well.
