The only time I watch Fox is when I want a good snort! I do watch it but only because I believe strongly that people should listen to people with whom they disagree.

One of our biggest problems as a nation these last few years (and we have had many!) is that people can make it so that they choose their radio, TV and internet news and can tune out anyone who does not think as they do. This is dangerous for any large nation, and is the root cause of a great deal of partisanship.

I think this may end up looking like "just another" recession - if we're very lucky. In which case many people will say the doomsayers were fear mongers and they can all go back to business as usual. But, it is not the same as others and the stakes are very high that we need to make some real changes to business as usual. Each of our recessions has been "fixed" in such a way as to simply push the problem off and now it has gotten far more dangerous than it should have been

I snort too when Barbie and Ken on Fox start their stuff in the morning, but in all fairness I snort at the other "news" channels too! If we have no choices in what we watch and listen to for news it becomes dangerously close to........ what? Dictactorship? Socialism? Al Jehersa (can't spell that sorry, Arab TV) that we are so fond of saying OMG do they believe that? Why would you not want other people to choose for themselves what to watch and listen to? Diverse opinion only becomes a problem for who? Kings? Queens?
This economic and social climate is already different from anything we have ever seen in our life times; we may end up thinking that all this change was not all that it was touted to be.........

just my 2 cents worth..............

:thumbsup That is the main question, isn't it?

My point (which seems to have been missed) is that there are those who believe that conservative news and talk shows are somehow causing this problem by "fear mongering". Kind of hard to buy that when countries who don't speak English and/or even have access to these media sources are already in the toilet. Or maybe there is Icelandic version of Rush out there and HE made the economy blow up :p

I would not say the fearmongering caused the problem, but I would say it is not very helpful and people resent being pushed in any direction through fear.

The other countries are tanking because we have a world economy. I'm not an economics major but I've listened to enough experts to feel that it started with us. The recession is in our face all day long. Regardless of who you listen to it is an issue. I don't believe that the major media is left wing. I've heard enough criticism directed at Obama by all the major networks to believe that they do whatever they need to to get ratings. The only station that is consistently one way or the other is Fox. All I'm saying is that Washington has come up with a plan. As usual everything is down partisan lines. Politicians seem to be incapable of voting with their conscious. The jobs will come back if people can regain confidence. I don't know if the latest plan will work or not I do know the one before did not work.

Regardless of your politics you should hope Obama succeeds. If he doesn't we all lose.

Of course it started with us, but it started because of the decline of anything ethical in business, that isn't political, it's all about money. The media will turn on Obama if his plans fail (and I'm afraid they will). Doesn't mean they aren't left leaning, because they absolutely are, but we can argue that point all day - I'm a conservative and learned to recognize spin at the knees of the master - Dimbulb taught me how to read spin, now I see it everywhere, including on his show. I think for myself, I don't need to get my talking point from any one source.

Politics is all about money too. That's why congress as a whole looked the other way. Unfortunately a lot of people do get their ideas and base their opinions on what they see on TV or right or left leaning websites. Doesn't seem to be a middle road anywhere.

In our instance we don't get much of a choice in free TV. Fox is all that will broadcast out our way. Radio is the same thing for AM, they broadcast so strongly that other stations are drowned out. They don't call themselves Fox but, in all honesty, they should.
I have internet and can listen, watch, read whatever I want. Those who don't are at the mercy of what they receive.
Yeah, I know the TV will change to digital soon but what we get now will be what we can get with digital, so nothing is changing out our way.

I don't have TV programming and I don't listen to the radio except in the car and its not exactly world news. I don't need to listen to the news or read a newspaper to know how the economy is going or to know that the world is in wind down. I also know why.

The only publication I need to read was written thousands of years ago and its more accurate than any modern day prediction guru. For those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, its all you really need to read to keep abreast of world events. If you read it carefully enough, you also know that you only need one thing to keep you from worrying about all of these events.

If you find yourself feeling "scared" about everything that is happening, you might reference the Bible to ease your fears. Its not a case of ignorance is bliss...its a case of knowing what is coming and having taken the proper steps to avoid being subject to the fall out of it. Sort of like being SS and preparing for disasters and emergencies, except this is the ultimate in preparation! :)
