34 years ago today, we lost the King of Rock and Roll.

I was in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada in a (literally) corner drug store. I was 13 and on vacation with my family. It was the day after his death and the first time we'd been in town since we were camping in a nearly empty campground. I read the news on the front page of the paper while standing in line to by Freshen Up Gum (the gum that squirts....)

I remember my older sister crying. She made a memorial trash can out of the chip barrel we had.

In the car with my mom. It was a '72 Cutlass and we heard the news on the radio. Mom didn't say anything, just turned the radio off. Silence for a long while.
