Don't forget about goodwill and other thrift stores. We are on a budget around here and I was able to luck up and find almost everything I needed at goodwill. So far so good and for a price that didn't hurt my wallet.

You might also put out word of mouth...there are many older ladies out there who will never can again, their families have no interest and sometimes they just want to get rid of "Mom's junk" and you can often get these free, as well as all her other canning implements. I scored like that and it was a HUGE score!

Church is a great place to let people know you can, make your own bread, need building materials and want scrap lumber, etc.

Unless you attend a church the size of mine! We're lucky if we have 40 people out on Sunday morning.

That's exactly the size of church in which I made the score! Let one deacon know I canned foods and made my own breads and suddenly found a truck load(a WHOLE 8 ft. bed truck load!) of canning jars(still in the box), a canner, lifter, strainer, funnel, and 480 lbs of red turkey wheat that had been sealed for 2000...it was fresh and practically made the bread itself it had so much gluten!

Small churches full of older folk are perfect if needing canning supplies....no one out there intends to can any longer.
