Cold!

One of the horse tanks here is 150 gal. Filled, break ice, but once they drink down a certain amount the littlest minis can't reach the remaining water. I have another, shorter tub...but guess where they all drink? Bucket from one to another plus hot because can't run spigot or hose!

We do not normally get this cold, for this long. So 6-10" of snow being added tonight. :th It's that East Coast storm coming up & the stream dipping down with cold North air. Thanks!.

Predicting 40-50 mph winds......blizzard.:barnie

When you live where winter means freezing water you just have to plan for that when you get animals. It's still a pain in the butt of course, but it's just a reality of living up north.
This year I bought a heated dog bowl for my chickens and it works well. I don't like running an extension cord from the shop, but it'll do for this winter.

My newest forecast says 2-4", Woo-hoo!

Yes, living up north we are much better prepared for bad winter weather. My heated water bucket for the goats was supposed to be here today, now it says Friday. Grr

I'm hoping for next winter we can have heated water for the birds too, but we can't run power to the barn and coop at the same time. We'll try to remedy that situation this summer!

We had a wonderful mild evening. It was so nice outside, DS and I went for a walk without coats. But I see we're in for just below freezing temperatures over the weekend :\ Anything is possible after that. We had two storms pass, one new year's eve, one yesterday. Crazy wind and lots and lots of rain, so this evening was nice after that!

Not too bad here after the sun came up. We only hit 24 instead of the predicted 22. Calling for 28 tonight so maybe that means 30 for us? If the wind is quiet the temps are ok...get that wind blowing and I just wanna hide. Don't want anymore of that!

For the first time since Christmas, we were above freezing. But, it's going to get even colder over the weekend. And, we're going to get wind and snow. I'm hoping there's not a power outage at the farm. No power means no water for any of the animals. I cannot understand people that live in a rural area that have animals and no generator.

Or people that live in a rural area....with or without animals...that have no generator. I guess sometimes it might be a financial issue...but it's worth saving up for!

My generator is covered & sitting where I would need to put it if we lose power. Hope I do not need it! Extra cans of gas at ready. Propane heater requires no electric. Everything stocked up for humans and animals, truck & car gassed. Animals fed, watered and bedded down. Now I can sit and pray we don't get the 10" predicted, we don't lose power and all else goes smoothly. Winter......:he

Scheduled to work tomorrow but will decide on that in AM. :)
