It just gets better every year. Don't forget to take the time and smell the roses.

Fricken horse apples....i don't even pick them up anymore. Just mow em over and change the lawn mower blades more often. :D

So while we haven't set any records growing vegetables this season, the work we are doing will sure pay dividends later. Smothering out the weeds, layering the cardboard and manure from the horses, sheep and chickens ought to make next years garden grow like crazy.
Yep - you are setting yourself up success in the next garden!

Woo Hoo! That's about twice as much as we got yesterday - argh. But, "they" say we have better chances at rain this coming week.... sure hope so.

Today I worked on that small section where I dumped two loads of horse manure/hay/compost. DH spread it out and I started laying cardboard. I marked what would be corn rows and what would be walkways. In the walkways, I doubled and tripled up the folded boxes. My husband loaded up the mule with wood mulch and I shoveled it over the boxes. It took all day and a lot of mulch. But it is done and ready to plant. I am tired.

Yesterday I planted the small plot. I cut holes in the cardboard, inserted a Silver Queen corn plant and moved to the next one. I planted 120 of them.

Today I planted purple hull peas in the larger plot that we covered in horse manure and rotted hay. I have the water sprinkler on it now, it is so dry that it is just dust.

My garden this year is just kinda meh, it looks like I will at least get some peas and corn.

Next year, with all the work we have done on it, the garden ought to grow LOTS of vegetables!
