Didn't can today but I have a whole box of fresh Georgia peaches almost ripe enough. I'll have the jars ready and waiting by tomorrow. I did dehydrate some peaches, pineapple, and bananas today, and made 4 loaves of banana bread.

For 13.6% alcohol it turned out really nice. My wife's taste buds did a great job - Its really easy drinking, maybe a little to easy. Since I'm feeling pretty good after a glass right about now. I think I need a nap.

I think this qualifies as canning. I corked thirty two 750 ml bottles of blueberry wine. 14.3% Alcohol By Volume, back sweetened to semi-dry 1.010 per my wife's taste buds. It's really yummy, my wife is a little tipsy from dialing in the sweetness :D

Crealcritter I just have to comment on your signature since it makes me laugh. Do you see a lot of people putting sugar in grits? I've only seen non-southerners who mistook grits for cream of wheat put sugar on it when I was in the Navy.

I'm from eastern Oregon and actually asked what it was when I first encountered grits. But then I only use butter with cream of wheat as well. I like grits pretty plain. Just butter and maybe a little cheese.

I'm in the heart of grits country here in Alabama and don't see anyone putting sugar in it here, but I can imagine if people don't know what it is, and are trying to make it like instant oatmeal or cream of wheat...:hu No wonder people don't like it!:lol:. (And you don't eat instant grits here either.)
I also didn't know anything about grits before we ended up in Georgia and Alabama. It's a corn dish, and if it's not the instant stuff you can really smell the corn. So sugar on corn sounds pretty funny anyway.

However, the tea here is pure syrup. Neither my husband nor I are from the South, so it is odd for us to have sugar in tea. I brought a friend to Wisconsin once, and she asked for sweet tea. The man told her that he would bring her tea and she could sweeten it herself!:gig
@Hinotori I just recently brought my 83 year old neighbor some cheesy grits and shrimp, and she was kind of stirring it around like it was going to bite her. She had never had cheese in her grits. :lol:

Well... I was raised in northern IL but, moved to NC, lived there 15 years. Now we are in Southern IL. Yes... Sugar in grits is common around here. I don't think people really know what grits are. Grits is ground corn, so why in world would you put sugar on grits?

I like my grits with cream, butter and a touch of salt. Instant grits is just plain nasty. Don't try instant grits first, before eating real grits or you'll be ruined of grits forever. Sometimes I like cheese grits, but prefer just cream, butter and a dash of salt

I pasted the recipe below.
  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 1.5 cups stone ground grits
Instructions
  • Combine all ingredients EXCEPT for the grits in a dutch oven or other heavy large pot. (I prefer a cast iron dutch oven because of it's even heat distribution). Turn the heat to medium and slowly heat til it JUST BEGINS to boil. Remove from the heat for a moment. Whisk in the grits 1/2 cup at a time. Return the pot to the burner & cook on low heat for about 45 minutes stirring occasionally. If the mixture gets too thick, add a little more milk or some water.

I have never had grits.
Maybe sometime, but I am not going to make up a whole big pot of grits, just to try them.

If you ain't never had grits before. DO NOT make your first experience eating grits out of instant grits, you'll be ruined forever. Instant grit are nasty... Think pancake mix where you just add water vs pancake mix where you add milk, eggs, oil. But like 30 times worse.

You could 1/4 or 1/2 the recipe. The way one I posted makes 8 bowls.
